    New technology

Ok this is far-fetched but just try and deal with me while I explain it.

I've just got done a discussion with my friend and he thinks that there is some kind of technology that is already available where they have a computer screen in glasses [regular sunglasses or reading glasses or whatever] where you can look at it and see the screen. AND your eye would be the "mouse". He also thinks that there is some kind of program out that types on the computer(while in a program like word or notebook) where you think of what to write and it types it up on the screen.

To me this is the biggest bunch of bull$$$$ I have EVER heard. He also thinks that soon we will be able to have an "operation" that puts a computer into your brain and it does whatever you want it to.

Well needless to say, the end of this discussion resulted with me calling him an idiot and then proceeding to punch him in the face.

But I want to know what you guys think.

Thanks for reading all of that,

    -Bill

Well, you should've told him that the year is 2003, not 3002!

IMO, such technology is still far, far, far away....

I remember on Beyond 2000 they actually had "Computer screen glasses"...Wonder what ever happened to them...

And there is technology where your eye can act as a mouse, they project a lazer onto your eye and determe at what angle your eye is looking at and determines where on the screen you're looking...I don't know if it's commercially available, I saw a special where some disabled person used it...I imagine it's a $$$$$ to control...it might've been scrapped...

Yes I was thinking the same thing about the mouse being controlled with the human eye. It would be even harder if you were wearing sunglasses, I don't see that as a useful tool except for people with disabilities like the previous poster said.

To have the computer type your thoughts and to have a computer implanted in the brain will be very possible someday I think.
For all we know that technology could already exist, but I doubt it. Nothing is impossible.

At one point, they were devloping a mouse that was controlled by your thoughts. I don't know if they are still doing it though.

Maybe he was confused and thought that optic mouse meant optical mouse(as in your eye)

There are things out there that allow you to control the mouse-
cursor with your eye; and there are wearable computers that
go over your eyes. I'm not sure if they've been combined...

I saw a documentry on TV where there was a thing that you could learn to control a mouse with your thoughts. They put some electronics inside your head in an operation. It was for quadraplegics and stuff. They also said that they think they could make it work so you could type with it eventually but I they were only talking about the possibility when i saw it.

they do have tiny lcds with lenses that can project an image on your glasses. But it's experimental and is basically a really tiny projector that attaches to the frame of your galsses.

The operation stuff might be crap in present day situation.. But the rest he was right.. The mouse controlled by the eyes is already available but still in development stage....

and about the glasses.. You dont have an entire computer in the glasses yet.. but there are glasses that can display like a monitor..

The technology necessary to move a "pointer" with your eye exists, and is actually old. Some 25 years back, there were a series of experiments done where car drivers had this technology fitted. A TV camera "looked" forward, and a small cross showed where the driver was looking. The experiments were conducted by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory in Crowthorne, England.

The experiments were designed to see where drivers were looking whilst driving - the aim was to identify and possibly remove distracting objects. Unfortunately for the experimenters, the most distracting objects were found to be things they could not remove, namely, women.

The eye glasses with screens do exist(I am uncertain if they use some sort of LCD, or if it is projected). It's not that complicated, actually. However, I have never heard of your eye being a Pointer(Although it should be possible by using a camera which studies your eye); Voice Recognition would make much more sense. But controlling things with your mind? I believe that is possible to the extent that it works for that ONE individual it is calibrated, but only for simple things like: Getting mad, happy, or energetic... things like that, but not things like the device knowing 'exactly' what you are thinking, cause that is BS.

yeah...it's not going to tell what you're thinking...but if you could learn to think a specific thing for each direction you want the mouse to move, it would cause electrical activity in different parts of the brain, which could be detected and used to control the cursor. I'm not sure how well it would work, though...it might be funny if you let your mind wander.
    Away.
