"This isnt an ideal world, people will always screwup and the idea that criminalising all vices will help is a little too good to be true wouldnt you say? Anyway, again, as if criminalisation has ever worked in the case of hard drugs..... making soft drugs & booze illegal would, and has never worked...."
yes it isnt, but, i am mostly concerned about the victims, not the criminals. Just think how hard corporations would push drugs if they were illegal. And, I really believe that all abusive crimes should have triple punishment as they do now, and quadruple if they are drug related.
"really I saw a documentary on marajana growing and its sounds like 90% of marajuna growers get away with it. Even if you are caught i heard its only a few weeks in jail. "
I think drug laws are foobar. There should be 1 punishment for dealing, 1 punishment for big dealing and no punishment for using (see above about abuse)
1 year for small dealing
5 years for big
sounds harsh? it took me 15 years of education to get me were I am today, it takes very little work for the drug dealer.
>>i am mostly concerned about the victims, not the criminals.
Again, fair enough, but I would hardly say that everyone who has a drink or even smokes hash is a victim....... And even if they are, are the drugs/booze the main reason??
I'm sorry to bring this slightly old thread back up, but oh well...
>actually they still have the same rights.<
In a lot of states, they can't get a legal marriage. They can't speak openly about their lifestyle in the army. Yep, you're right. They do have the same rights....
>i am mostly concerned about the victims, not the criminals.<
The sad part is in most cases, the victims are stamped with being the criminals...

Well said.
Okay, I'm done. Let the thread die in peace!

Here in Aus the problem with drugs it the are very expensive and hard to get. Except pot, pot growing is an industry reported to be four times the size of our wine industry (we produce lots of wine!).
This is something you have to experience first hand. Only thru addiction can you understand that, to an addict drugs have the same level of importance as oxygen and are much more important than food / water.
This causes crime, as people addicted to drugs will do anything to get more. If you have known someone with a drug problem you would understand. It is terrible when someone in your family lies to your face, steals your property (someone I know stole their Mom's wedding ring) and then nearly dies from an OD.
The problem is in quality and quantity. Taking these kind of chemicals without any supervision eventually is deadly.
Stop the trade. Make them all legal. If you want drugs you go to the doctor, he/she checks you out, records your consumpton and gives you what you want at a reasonable price.
As the production was legal prices would drop, quality remain constant. This would kill the black market over night and drasticly reduce the number of OD's. Taxes raised from the drugs could pay for better hospitals and fund the detox programs.
Remember 90% of money spent by the gov on drugs is on law enforcement. That leaves very little to cure someone who has developed a problem. I would rather have a population that is stoned rather than hanging out and needing to score (looking for the easy target to get the cash ie little old ladies handbags).
As for pot, a hectare of pot produces better quality paper than rain forrest, and does so 3-4 times a year, not once in 50 years or so. So which one is most used for paper / wood chip?
Im a Conservative!
novacain, you read my mind man!

Finally! Someone sees past the propaganda that almost always fogs the marijuana lens. Let's not forget about the 1000+ illnesses that it can treat.
Also, there's a book by the name of something along the lines of The Emperor Wears No Clothes. It discussess the myriad uses for industrial hemp. God, I love this plant! It can do everything. :)
In the United States, Pot is our number one cash crop. Meaning that people are making more money by growing it than legal farmers make by growing corn, wheat, tobacco etc etc. I think that's the number one reason why they don't legalize it. It would definately have some sort of effect on our economy, probably not good. Meanwhile, they use our tax dollars to jail and feed thousands and thousands of people every year and for what? A victimless crime. They should spend this money and house and feed the homeless instead. Just my opinion.
OH YEAH!!!! I am a republican!!
I am one of the Marxist. :P
