    I think it's that:

    1) some of the questions are a bit obscure
    or
    2) some of the questions are compiler specific
    and
    3) some are so stupid that we know someone else will answer it, and we won't have to waste our time answering it. yes, I know it may seem harsh, but think about it: One of the newer board questions was somewhere along the lines of "How do I make an executable file using C++" only with more spelling/grammatical errors.

    Also,
    4) Some people ask the same questions over&over&over again, and or did absolutely no thinking/researching/testing before they posted.

The general board is just a fun place to blow some stam off and relax when you're on the internet and bored. We have a lil' community here, and I guess it's only natural that we want to talk about other things besides computers and code with eachother. makes sense to me!

    how many of us here
don't program but come here just because they like to join in
    the (non-programming) discussions? (raises hand)
Ditto here! (and to help the hapless newbies when I can...)
    same here

I spend way to much time here at the G-discutions board to program or learn. Actuly do to financial changes I am not getting a .com at this time so I am looking for 25mb web space that allows exe files. (so that you don't need an un-zipper

    3 or 4 years here...

Hmm...I started programming back in the 8th grade in BASIC, started C++ in 9th grade, now I am in 11th grade...so it has been 3 and a half to 4 years now.

Like a lot of you, I also tend to post to this board only...heh heh. Maybe we should go and actually answer some C++ questions, which is what this board is actually for...

    Good taste in avatars, David!

No, this is the only board that counts.

Real programmers don't answer questions; they talk aimlessly on general discussions. This is what seperates the newbies from the experienced ones. THEY PH33R 0|_|R |\|\4|) 5k177z!

    Erm, sorry...

    Cool

I began programming by distance learning starting with Pascal back in Feb 2000 and then progressed onto C which I've just finished. I'm doing systems analysis next but I'm also reading Sams 'Teach yourself VB in 21 days' at the moment. C got a bit heavy so I thought VB might be a bit more user friendly. Anyone else done VB and how easy is it compared to C?
I think most programmers only come here for Govtcheez's brain teasers and useless fact of the day
may the source be with you...

Thank you, Thank you.... ::bows:: We need a new brainteser thread, methinks. I'll get to work on that.

    //Edit 1:
Btw, I've done VB before - it's cake for some things, but way worse than C for others. For example, it's really easy to create a GUI, but you wouldn't want to create an OS in it (to go to extremes)

When this thread was originally active 23 years, more than 24 now. Who dragged this old thing up? (Yes Deckard - I know it probably wasn't you!).

It was just sitting on top of my list of "unread messages since last visit". I completely missed the fact it was that old. Could it be the result of an undocumented feature?

No - more than likely it was bumped to the top of the list when someone replied to the poll.

Been programming in various languages for about 21 years - since my first computer back in 1981. Right after the Atari 5200 came out I started coding in BASIC(s) and when the little language called 'C' came out I started into it. Soon to follow was C++ and much, much later I learned assembly. My learning and research have been accelerated since the advent of the Internet - or I should say since it's gone public and not just between businesses.

Have not programmed professionally - but I'm currently working to solve that little problem.
