MP3 "stereo box" with hd/ethernet

has any one managed to find a good mp3 "stereo box". i mean the good kind with a hard drive and ethernet, i cant find any that cost less that $1000. any audio freaks out here?

build one yourself from whatever parts you can get your hands on, even if you have to buy most of those parts

Echo face_master. I have a box that set me back all of $400 that does file serving, plays mp3's and runs DNS and DHCP, and a few other things for my network.
