Verbal abuse from school teachers -- how to get them caught or busted?

At my school, I'm on a swim team. Recently, things in the SWIMMING locker room have been getting broken or lost. The wrestling coach turns to us to accuse, and today for the second time he comes in yelling in a threatening manner. Today, he took it a step up.

He was *yelling* at one of the swimmers, in a harassing manner. Another swimmer asks what is wrong, and the coach replies "You know what the HELL is wrong, you liar!"

I walk in while he is still yelling, referring to us as "you damn swimmers." I then ask what is wrong. He (of course yelling) tells me that I'm lieing. Then I repeat myself, saying I don't know what is wrong. He then says "Oh, so you tryin' to be a tough guy!?". I say "No.". He says "A tough, eh?!". I say "Nope, but I don't know what's wrong". Then he replies, "I'll tell you what's wrong, you're a moron!" I say, "No, I'm not.". He continues to yell for a little bit, then leaves.

All of this is not just a case of "an annoying coach/teacher". He is yelling at us in a threatening and harassing manner for no reason. He has no reason to believe we are vandalizing the locker room.

    1) Does anyone know an internet site that has wisconsin laws pertaining to verbal abuse in schools, or anything like that? I'm writing a letter to the athletic director, and principle, and want to make an impact. Thanks.

He was wrong in yelling (especially at kids), but I wouldn't rock the boat over something so stupid...he didn't curse...

And trust me, I've seen people be called much worse. Most people can take it in stride. Unless he physically threatened me then I wouldn't take this much further than a verbal to the principal or someone else over his head.

    But that's just me.

    Search google...

"You know what the hell is wrong"

    "You damn swimmers"

    "You liar"

    "You moron"

I really don't think this is in ANY way acceptable talk to students. Especially when it is coming from a staff member.

And, wouldn't you feel threatened if the *wrestling coach* walks towards you yelling "Oh, so you think you're a tough guy, eh?!"

I wouldn't worry too much. He knows that if he ever lay a finger on you he'd never work again.

i have to agree with ken but theres a few things u can do:

    a) tell your parents, sounds lame but hey.

    b) report him to principal and such

    c) mention to your guidence counselors, this gives u a strong footing if u decide to push this.

    d) call your local news. Here its FOX, and let them know whats up hehe.

I'd steer clear of this. I know what he is doing is wrong but the media can really #### up people's lives, especially over this type of thing.

Just tell some of the administration about this. That should take care of things. Telling principal/assistant principal(s)/counselors/other teachers should be enough to take care of the matter. Yes, what he is doing is unethical, just tell other admin and the problem should be taken care of. If he threatens you for going to admin, then he has a real problem. But I think he is just angry (hopefully it isn't anything more).

I don't think it's right. How long has this been going on for? If it continues I would advise you to bring it to someone's attention, but if there's a chance this could just settle down and die over, I'd opt for that. Realistically teachers are believed over students, i.e he may easily deny what you and the rest of the swim team say and get away with it. Kinda blows huh. I liked RoD's suggestions.

no matter what you decide to do, you gotta be professional. if you just go into the office....he said this, he said that, they arent going to pay much attention. BUT if you go in there w/a couple, or even one other guy that was in there w/you w/written statements on what happed, they'll take you a little more seriously. this is how we got our curriculum changed,(we wanted more recent languages to be taught at our vocational school) i dont see why it wouldnt be helpful in this situation...just a thought

I agree with dP munky. Be professional about it. Verbal may be okay, and still be professional, as long as you are nice about it, and don't act like you are whining. You posted that he came in yelling, so I assume there are more people that witnessed this. There is at least one other person that he yelled at, so going and speaking to the principal with at least this other person, and telling him nicely without sounding like a whining complainer, would at least notify them. They can decide from there what they want to do about it.

    Forget that.
Step up, get in his face... make him hit you. When he does, get him fired.

He has such a bad temper I actually think he WOULD hit me if I talked smart to him. Like if I said "Alright, lets calm down buddy. Everything is gonna be OK. Now, settle down and tell me the matter." Heh, then he'd get REAL mad.

I printed out 3 copies of a 1 page paper that described what he did, and how he broke our school district policies, and school rules. Tomorrow I'm giving a visit to the assistant principal / athletic director, head principal, and the head wrestling coach (the nice one who watches the mean one shout his voice out).

I don't think it is the insult as much as the coach not being ethical and professional. at least that would be my argument.
