    Troll-tastic!

The only reason there's not a Mac board is because there hasn't been hardly any demand for one (Yours is the first request I can remember seeing for one, but I'm probably wrong). If the demand was there, I'm sure there'd be one.

My apologies... What is so good about macs? Are there any huge differences between them and PCs? (not bashing, just curious)

Huge difference? Nah. Both computers...both turring(sp?) complete...if it can be programmed on one, it can be on the other. PC has more support, more software...artists generally seem to prefer Macs...one *better* than the other? Not per say...just different. Macs use a more elegant, generally faster RISC architecture, while the PC uses the more ugly CISC/RISC, backwards compatible, crazy, monster x86 architecture. But they've poured so much into it that its staying a good distance ahead of the powerPC.

I use PC's because they are the standard. Why most people use them. Just easier. I don't think it's better than the mac...just a different machine with more support. Oh yeah...Macs look cool...though I prefer the tech look to their stylistic look.

You know Ive been a mac fan since the start.
I had my first mac 1987 I think..
At that time mac was better for sure..
Or at least I believed it..

I have been one of strongest defender of macs in the past years..

But after all those years I have come to a conclusion..

all data used to compare macs and pc were made by either mac fans or pc fans..
and most of the time they'd either cheated or reveal their opinion throught the results..
Of course mac fans said mac was better in everything and the opposite for pc fans..

But today in 2003 the gap between both computers has become very little..

Mac os X is VERY stable havent restarted my 3 macs over the past 3 months. I use those macs for c++ some 3d and mostly recording music.
But in the other hand I heard xp was pretty close to os X ,if not equivalent. (Altought that came from a pc user)

Also most of the time mac fans rage that macs are faster and better for graphics and music.
I still agree that mac is better on music. Pc is getting closer for graphics. But I still think mac is better. As for the speed.. Well.. with the outcoming of pentium 4 with 2.0 ghz and over..
Im not very sure the gap is large. (Of course apple say they are still way faster... can we trust them? I dunno..)

    As for the support issue..
you can use virtual pc on a mac. With this you can use everything from pc on your mac even windows , games, ... everything!

Now, knowing this; should you go directly to the store and buy a a brand new mac? For most of you out there I SAY NO!

    why?

mac cost AT LEAST 3 times more.
(thats the only thing I HATE from mac)

If you play games or use microsoft office buy a pc will do just great.

In the other hand, if your are a professional graphist or music composer. I think mac is for you.

    well thats it..

ok, luigi, if you want to code just some terminal apps, you use plain C/C++ and compile in terminal (I cant remember how, try a mac channel on IRC) and it will create an a.out file just like in Linux. Now if you want to code GUI apps, Id recommend the Cocoa API using C/Objective-C. For that you'd need to use the Developers studio that comes in Mac OSX

    >>mac programming

::shiver:: the evil is stong with this one!

    >>mac cost AT LEAST 3 times more.

To make up for the lack of sales

    >>But in the other hand I heard xp was pretty close to os X ,if not equivalent.

I disagree, i think XP owns os x, by alot, and in no way is it equivalent.

    >>But today in 2003 the gap between both computers has become very little..

Again i disagree. There are many reasons aside from popularity that keep pc high high above the macintosh, i will gladly go into more detail if you would like.

    >>all data used to compare macs and pc were made by either mac fans or pc fans..
and most of the time they'd either cheated or reveal their opinion throught the results..
Of course mac fans said mac was better in everything and the opposite for pc fans..

ATI vs nVidia, AMD vs Intel, Mac vs PC.....its all the same like that.

    >>Also most of the time mac fans rage that macs are faster and better for graphics and music.
I still agree that mac is better on music.

How so? I feel that the pc is a fast and excellent machine for music, and is just as capable if not more capable as a macintosh.

    >>Pc is getting closer for graphics. But I still think mac is better.

Closer to what? The pc has been ahead of mac in the graphics department for a LONG time, and macs not really catching up. So who are we catching up to? It surely isn't mac!

    >>As for the speed.. Well.. with the outcoming of pentium 4 with 2.0 ghz and over..

3.06GHZ for those who don't know, and AMD can't be far behind.

    >>Im not very sure the gap is large. (Of course apple say they are still way faster... can we trust them? I dunno..)

Faster in what? I don't think so.

    >>you can use virtual pc on a mac. With this you can use everything from pc on your mac even windows , games, ... everything!

They had to do this to make the mac an appealing machine

Now i'm not saying macs suck, i have used them and they are OK machines, but not near a pc imo. The mac is to the pc world what the lions are to NFL. They're there, just not popular for some good reasons(sorry govt had too :P )

You're talking about Pc's, mate. Not windows. Why were no Unix-based OS's mentioned?

Probably because *nix isn't a big enough market to be worthy of mention
