if you dont like linux threads, dont read...

i just have a quick question, ive searched around and couldnt find anything useful. i figured someone here would probably know enough to answer...

first off, how do i convert .zip files to .tar.gz files? i figure there must be a way, since im trying to get stuff for a program designed for linux and all of the downloads are in .zip format.

also, how do i load normal programs in linux, such as games? i know a lot of people use linux as their primary os, and ive heard of a lot of people running popular computer games on linux, and it would be helpful to know how to go about it.
I came up with a cool phrase to put down here, but i forgot it...

What's with the title? Isn't it supposed to represent the
    problem?

Shouldn't the post add something to the conversation?

Why does it need to be a .tar.gz file? I wouldn't think Linux would have a problem with zip files...

    It did din't it?
I was just inresistably attracted to the words 'dont like linux' .

Anyway, You can't run all games on linux, They have to be
ported to it. This is where OpenGL comes in handy. Though
there aren't many companies that port games over, I think ID
was one of the companies who did.

I'm not sure, But i heard there was some kind of emulator
for windows games, but for all i know it's crap.

a lot of times i tend to ask questions right before i figure out the answer... i figured out how to use zip files now, and the help with running programs was... well... helpful

sorry to clutter up the boards, im good now... thanks

    [edit]

btw, i named the thread that way because i know there have been a lot of linux threads recently and it just so happens that right along with the rash of linux threads i have been trying to get my own linux machine running. i have a fear of getting flamed (yes, i know its sad), and i wanted to weed out the people that would flame about all the linux threads by excluding them from the thread entirely.
