    LILO Problem..

My teacher called me home.. To help her out install Linux... She had a 20 GB HDD... C Drive 10 and D drive 10..thru fdisk i removed D and the logical partition.. Thus freeing 10 GB.. then went on to install linux.. I choose LILO boot and write to MBR.. But after instalation the LILO option never came up.. I even tried booting from the Linux bootable floppy it created... But it says loading and says could not load or something and insert new disk... What it the problem.. I tried installing 2nd time but the same...

I have installed Linux before without problems... Redhat 6, Mandrake etc. and she runs WIndows ME...

    Thanx for any help...

If I understand correctly, you got rid of the logical partition, so there's only 1 20 GB drive, right? I didn't think Linux and Windows could exist together on the same partition - maybe that's the problem/

werll the Hard disk is of 20 GB.. i removed the lofgical partitioning.. So it showd 10 GB as free space or unallocated.... Then using Disk Druid i allocated space for swap and '\'.... (i.e created partitions using disk druid) but it never shows the LILO..

What you mean, never shows LILO?!
Hmm, share with us the partitions info.

Bootmanagers like Lilo are written into the MBR (Master Boot Record) or into the first sectors of the Boot Partition.

    You can't see Lilo, it's not a partition, it's a bootmanager.

It's written into the MBR or into the First Boot partition and has some data, which includes the partitions and the standard boot options!

sorry.. what i meant is it never shows me the LILO boot options...

The partition is sometin like this

    1st 10 GB windows
    around 300 mb of swap
    around 5 gb of root

but i remember one thing.. while using disk druid.. it said something like " the disk structure may not be compatible with the booting" something similar to this... when i used auto partition.. the same thing when i manually did it.. I got this warning even before i made linux partitions...
    Any idea what it means...

Linux partitions should be EXT3 or EXT2.

LILO has a bit of an anger problem. One time, she bit another girl because the girl laughed at the notion of sandwich day.

Just wondering.......5 MB for root! Insane I say!

You could have sized root down a little and made room for some other partitions besides just root and swap space...

Yup, thats exactly the problem; You need an extended or logical drive. (extra one, that is)
