it was actually brought up about a week ago. Very good idea indeed.
>>> up about a week ago
It was actually bought up a considerable time ago when the Chinese government blocked access to google at the national gateway level, the mirror version was still available.
why would the chinese government block access to google???
>>why would the chinese government block access to google???<<
The Chinese government block access to LOADS of websites. All part of their will to control what information the population are allowed to obtain. I would imagine a search engine is considered by them to be a powerful tool for acquiring information that is damning about the Chinese government. Hence why they would ban it.
ahhh, i understand what youre saying, but any computer savvy person can find their way around the net w/o a search engine as powerfull as google. there are thousands of em, so why let people have access at all???
maybe the ppl who banned the site wasn't as smart as they thought they were :)

Unfortunately, there are many countries that take the internet feed through a state controlled national border gateway, and filter out whatever they don't want their people to see. There is a BBC article here...

"Knowledge is power" - that's the reason for these restrictions.
Looks like China needs an alternate internet
Or maybe just an alternate government.
Why dont like, all of China get together and charge at their Government leaders and (literally) overthrow them. There's enough of them for sure! Hey, I wonder if this site is blocked by the Chinese government.
Oh crap! They're onto me!!
The chinese blocked access to google because of the massive amount of traffic it was getting. As previously stated china loves to control its population, and they viewed the fact that more then 75% of the internet population of china was accessing google, ALOT.
I think that the chinese should fully unleash themselves upon the world. We will learn a lot from them as they learn a lot from us. I mean, the British Government love red-tape but they do not control our internet access. The fact that they let anything through shows that they don't mind it.

Of course, you only see what gets through...
... so you would think that wouldn't you.
