    The End

I was having an interesting conversation the other day about the end of the world, and how it would come about. I think that we will, with some device or another, destroy the Earth and us in an instant. Whether on purpose or by accident we will be destroyed.
We will grow to such an extent that in the end it will be our down fall, destruction.
    -Chris Fairchild
Well that's what I think. How about everyone else, what do you think?

I agree completely. Humans are too incompetant. we've screwed up too much already. I don't think it will be too much longer.

Look at where we are now from 500 years ago. Eventually our technology and arrogance will destroy the world itself, but don't worry, you'll die before you see it

I think the human survival instinct is too strong for us to all kill each other, and even if most of the planet is completely nuked, at least a handfull of paranoid people will survive in the bomb shelters they built in the sixties. In my opinion, humans are like a disease that can never be eradicated completely.

The earth will be destroyed in order to build an intergalactic bypass.

war will unlikely kill us all for a long time.

when the magnetic pole's flip most of the planet will be dead, so it'll take some time to nuke everyone.

    hurrah.

I vote for a nearby massive star going supernova, creating a black hole and irradiating the planet with lethal doses of X and gamma rays. See this months issue of Scientific American.
Or we do it to ourselves with bio weapons.

Why bother? From the day we're born, we're doomed to die sooner or later...

    (Hope I didn't sound too pessimistic )

Because we're not a great civilisation?

Atta boy. Thats the spirit. But to quote Cake:

As soon as you're born you start dying
    So, you might as well
    have a good time

Which seems like good advice from the sound of mind... until the next lines...

    oh no
    sheep go to heaven
    goats go to hell

Maybe we shouldn't base any deep life altering philosophies around this guys verses after all...

    >> I think the human survival instinct is too strong for us to all kill each other

Nah. Just put everyone together and say x is better than y and everyone will rip everybody elses throats out... Well it works here anyhow...

I much prefer y. You have a problem with that???

Personally I think a man made explosion will end the world.
