Not really. Seeing everything in easily defined absolutes, us vs. them, and ignorance of the complexity of the situation is true of naive people all over the world--in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, etc. It is just to Bush's advantage to take the paternalistic role of the moralizer. Please be aware that ignorance, blindness, over simplification, etc. occur on the liberal side as well as on the conservative side. This is not some Republican- or conservative-specific disease infecting certain Americans only.

Many groups are good at correctly pointing out various faults of other groups. Many are also blind to their own, even when the faults are pointed out to them. America's no worse and sometimes much better in this regard than other countries, but being the biggest bear in the woods means its faults are larger and/or more visible to others, as well as having bigger consequences. The same goes for America's good qualities.

I've seen those three examples in many Americans, and non-Americans too.
