    >And my final thought- cracking and stealing software is not something to be glad about. If you like stuff to be free, use software that was meant to be free.
If someone works hard to write code and doesn't want to give it away, don't steal it from them<

do you think its write to charge a monthly/yearly lease for software?!!!??? who can afford this!!!!!!????!!

BTW: im not justifying it either...

Serious question (not to start an argument - just wanted clarification): What did you mean by this? "Apple their OS is more compatable" Compatible with what? Other Macs?

Also, is Mac's OS really open source? Where can we find the code?

    > i beg to differ... but i will spare an arguement...

Fair enough - it's just semantics, anyways.

    > why does MS still feel the need to rip of features from them??

Because it's they way everyone does everything! It's how business works! You learn from people and their mistakes and triumphs, and then capitalize or improve on them. It's not like Apple created the first GUI or anything. If you want to get real technical, everyone's stealing everything from the abacus, or the first person to count with rocks.

    > WHEN THE HELL DID I INSULT THEIR PROGRAMMERS

    Oh... I dunno...
    Here:
    > MS does not make decent software
    Oh yeah, and here:
    > VB is unstable
    Here, too:
    > Microsoft hs yet to write anything solid or stable..

Not to mention that pirating a piece of software might as well be a slap in the face to the developer.

    >Linux is incabable of meeting my current needs

So you'd rather just .......... about why Windows and MS products are awful? What does MS's horrid program do that you need so badly that you'll keep using it?

    > I DONT HAVE MONEY FOR A NEW COMPUTER!!

So reformat you current one and install Linux - no cost in reinstalling an OS - no new hardware. Cool, right?

its more hardware compatably than Win2k buddy thats a fact... if you'd like ill dig up a comparison article on it...

did you know MacOS can rund win2k in a window????

    >Also, is Mac's OS really open source? Where can we find the code?

    try the following...

    http://www.apple.com
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/tour/darwin.html
    http://www.opensource.apple.com//

    good point...

this is a management problem in my opinion... the programmers are responsible for their own code but if there not given time and resources to write good code or debug it then ITS NOT THIER FAULT!!!

yes, and i dont have money for a Mac...

I hope you don't feel like you are getting tagteamed w/me and Govtcheez posting at the same time. But I'm finding your points interesting- so I'm gonna keep responding.

No- I don't think that having to renew a license on some time basis is good. And I do believe it someone else already said that if they go to that model they will drop MS. (Which completely proves my first point- if MS goes ahead w/this they will be shooting themselves in the foot)

But as good ol' mom says. Two wrongs don't make a right. Don't like what MS Office? Don't steal it, use Star Office. Don't have a couple grand to spend on SQL Server? Use MySQL (now w/stored procedures by the way)

And I've alway gotta throw in that extra bit. It is ironic to me that you are upset w/MS business practices and what they charge yet you like Apple.

There is one difference between MS and Apple. MS succeeded at forcing the majority to use their product- Apple failed.

I read that comparison between Win2K and OSX. It didn't make any sense. If your OS is written for propietary hardware it had better install better. If it doesn't you are in bad shape.

I'm not hardcore on either side of the fence here (I lean open source a little but I'm no rabid Linux user) - but it is very impressive to me that MS works as well as it does while supporting such an incredibly huge amount of hardware (that is so much more affordable than any Apple stuff)

OK, then answer my question... What does Windows, which you feel is a crappy piece of software made by an evil corporation, do that the freedom-loving Linux can't?

    >did you know MacOS can rund win2k in a window????

Nope, I didn't... That's pretty sweet - does it run any good, though?

    >this is a management problem in my opinion... the programmers are responsible for their own code but if there not given time and resources to write good code or debug it then ITS NOT THIER FAULT!!!

Good programmers will know how to get the job done in the time allotted with the tools available.

    >ill dig up a comparison article on it...

Cool - I'd like to read it.

I also don't understand all the flak MS gets for more-or-less being a monopoly. Yes, it's illegal, but the law doesn't make any sense. Gates did good. He lives the American dream (which, at its core, is to just be rich) and now is being punished for it. We are told all our lives to be successful so we can make lots of money and laze about. What they don't say is "Just don't do too good, or else you're gonna get sued"

MS doesn't force anyone to use their products. There's alternatives available. If people really hate it that much and refuse to or are too stupid to switch, then sorry, its their own fault - nobody's holding them there.

    Theologian,

    >I hope you don't feel like you are getting tagteamed w/me and Govtcheez posting at the same time.<

not at all... i kind of enjoy it... im learning here on why im making bad arguements where my reasoning is flawed and where im right...

    >No- I don't think that having to renew a license on some time basis is good. And I do believe it someone else already said that if they go to that model they will drop MS. (Which completely proves my first point- if MS goes ahead w/this they will be shooting themselves in the foot) <

some buisness don't hae any alternatives in fact microsoft is destroying small buisness...

    >But as good ol' mom says. Two wrongs don't make a right. Don't like what MS Office? Don't steal it, use Star Office. Don't have a couple grand to spend on SQL Server? Use MySQL (now w/stored procedures by the way) <

    true, true..

    >And I've alway gotta throw in that extra bit. It is ironic to me that you are upset w/MS business practices and what they charge yet you like Apple. <

Apple charges for Hardware not software theres no leasing... I don' tlike Apple a lot but its the lesser of two evils and they make excellent software... so

    >I read that comparison between Win2K and OSX. It didn't make any sense. If your OS is written for propietary hardware it had better install better. If it doesn't you are in bad shape. <

Mac OS is no longer written for proprietary Hardware...

    >I'm not hardcore on either side of the fence here (I lean open source a little but I'm no rabid Linux user) - but it is very impressive to me that MS works as well as it does while supporting such an incredibly huge amount of hardware (that is so much more affordable than any Apple stuff)<

MacOS X is free... cant beat that price...

    Govtcheez,

    >OK, then answer my question... What does Windows, which you feel is a crappy piece of software made by an evil corporation, do that the freedom-loving Linux can't? <

OpenGL... Linux has MesaGL i want to learn the real stuff... i would like it better on a mac since it supports GL far better but i don't have money so...

    >Nope, I didn't... That's pretty sweet - does it run any good, though?<

on dual G4's anything runs good... hehe

    >Cool - I'd like to read it.

crap the sites search is down... im tryin to work around it though... ill get it if its possible...

    >I also don't understand all the flak MS gets for more-or-less being a monopoly. Yes, it's illegal, but the law doesn't make any sense. Gates did good. >I also don't understand all the flak MS gets for more-or-less being a monopoly.<

BECAUSE IT DOESNT ALLOW FOR COMPETITION!!!! it would be hell if you could only buy MS products THIS IS WHAT MS WANTS!!! THIS IS WHAT THE FLAK IS OVER!!
THEY DONT WANT ME TO HAVE A CHOICE!!

so he made money NOBODY CARES ABOUT THAT!! great i don't care hes rich good for him i don't like how he did it(by stealing an OS) but thats no longer relevant...

    >MS doesn't force anyone to use their products. There's alternatives available. If people really hate it that much and refuse to or are too stupid to switch, then sorry, its their own fault - nobody's holding them there<

thats BS they are forcing their software on people when slasdots search is back up i will site examples... you will be angry if you are fair minded...
