The fact that America has so much is because we CREATED that wealth. We did not achieve it through conquest. Other nations could do the same. There is no reason to suggest that the US has done something wrong just because they are wealthy. There is a reason that redistribution of wealth is ineffective. It takes resources away from producers. Producers are those that CREATE wealth. You need to learn to focus on the fact that wealth can expand not just be shared.

Well said. I must admit i am in complete agreement, but also with shadow in the paranoid president sense. He is going to end up costing us more then our loss by the time hes done dropping bombs.

    >It could simply be a well made hunting rifle with a scope on it. >Purchasable at wal-mart.

I've said it many times, and I'll mention it again here: Every society has some sickos. Even America. With the total freedom America grants, ill-tempered people can make use of total power. I don't believe normal people need handguns to defend their home from criminals or their own president. If this is a serious problem, maybe you should call for more police or another president. A handgun or shotgun or automatic weapon's primary use is to kill people. If you sell deadly weapons, you should not be surprised if a small percentage of people is actually going to use them.

I live in Baltimore MD which is about 1 hour away from gaitherberg...and even closer my father lives in gaithersberg..

I walk out of my house every morning wondering if im going to be shot while getting into my car...

But i still go on with my every day life...

I think it ok to be scared but also be aware and dont give this guy a chance to get you. In fact i want to know why they dont have 24-7 air patrol ready to move in on the crime sceen and stop everything and anything in motion and search it for evidence. the guy doesnt fly so he still must be in the area when a shooting accurs.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD!

Just yesterday we were united. and Today some ******* who is probably a old fart who like to malest little children and gets a hard on when he kills is going to fudge it all up

I'll quote from the great mind of Archie Bunker:
Would it make you feel any better, little girl if they was pushed outa windows?
"Sickos" don't need guns to kill and the primary purpose of most guns is protection/hunting animals.

that cheap stab would work except that conquest acquired wealth requires that the conquered had wealth to begin with. Nice try.

    >FillYourBrain said: "I never bought a gun but as I understand it there are permits and background checks that must be done before purchase"

Not in all cases. Last I head (about a year ago), at gun shows no background check is required. You can walk in, buy the gun, and walk out.

    >FillYourBran: "The thing about unequal distribution is that there isn't a fixed amount of wealth that has to be divided up"
...""Enough to go around" is a phrase that suggests that no more can be created "

Your taking a very oversimplified view of wealth. Think of wealth as resources. In this case there is a fixed amount of wealth to be divided up at any given time. Money is just a "token". It allows the purchase of resources -- limited resources. Economics is far more complicated than you seem to appreciate.

    >..."Producers are those that CREATE wealth"

wealth is not create, it is acquired. Things are created. One can create things that acquire him/her wealth.

    >The fact that America has so much is because we CREATED that wealth. We did not achieve it through conquest.

maybe not conquest but definitely by, to varying degrees, exploitation

    >The rising of the wealthy can coincide with the rising of the wealth of the poor.

Yes it "can". But as history as shown (and is showing now) that Rising upper class mostly coincides with a lowering lowerclass.

    >FillYourBrain: The world despises our success.

not really (for the most part). They despise how we use our success

    >"Sickos" don't need guns to kill ...

Perhaps not. But guns make it much easier for someone to kill, and in large quantities. Guns take the "killing" out of killing. They remove the "closeness" that is required to kill with a knife or with ones bare hands. Our society is so desensitized to violence that for certain people "at the edge", it is much easier to kill from afar then to actually force the knife into someones flesh or to strangle the life out of someone. This requires a level of cold-heartedness far beyond killing from x feet away with a simple pull of a trigger.

    Thumbs up

I say they stop calling him a sniper and call him what he really is; a serial killer.
I wonder what made this person wake up one morning and say: "Hey! I guess i'll shoot some people today." As far as my opinoin goes, he's probably some cracked up, ex-military, CIA billy-the-kid, want-a-bee that wants his name to fame.
I pray they catch him soon and do into others as they have done to you family. Definitely, an eye for an eye!

Ok, on that note lets propose a question.

Do you think, having shot the sniper, that you would be prosecuted?

I for one think you would be honored as a hero, as i feel it should be.

In today's society, being a hero is an old fashioned cliche. So, my answer is yes but I have a family so if I shot his AZZ and dragged him in my house maybe I could say he was a burglar. HE! HE! HE!

My #1 priority would be simply stated as in the constitution: "My right to bear arms and blow that evil sh#t to hell. I would have no choice but to defend and protect my family.

    Thanks!

Wealth is often defined by economists as natural resources and people resources. I am defining wealth in terms of quality of life, possessions etc for the PURPOSE of simplifying it for people who do not understand and have not studied these things.

Again, if this were so we would have the same level of wealth that the first people who walked the earth had. With our population as it is it would be spread very thin. This is not the case. "Things" that raise quality of life, food/shelter/other necessities included, are what is to be included as resources. Therefore, wealth IS created. If everyone sat around doing nothing we would all die. Production is necessary to maintain and increase wealth.

I can't tell you what a cop-out this statement is. I hear it often with no facts to back it up.

Did you even read the article I posted?

Oh really? Just how should we use it? Give it away? of course we should. Let's just decrease our resources so nobody will be increasing the world's quality of life. Producers are key.

The gun comment I'm not even going to touch cause I don't even care about gun control issues. Besides, you're just out to argue with everything I say anyway.

Ya, but you would be sent to prison for it, unless he was about to kill YOU or something. Think about what happened to Lee Harvy Oswald. He was shot right after the assasination, but the guy who shot would have gone to prison, had he not suffered a heart attack and died.

The Native Americans had this country. They didn't see/use it as a resource to be exploited, but nonetheless it was theirs and we took it.
If I own 100 acres and you come in by force and/or deceit take it from me, strip mine it for gold and get rich, your wealth is derived from conquest. Doesn't matter that I didn't strip mine it. Doesn't matter if you took it, drained the wetlands and put up wall to wall condos (trying to give you a Florida reference there). Wasn't yours to create wealth out of.
