    Downloading mandrake........

Man, ive finally decide to download a copy of linux, specifically mandrake. Im not going to pay for free software from some stupid store for anywhere from $45-95 for something I know I can download for free (legally). Too bad ever single mirror i can find is supper loaded down and slow as hell to download from. Anyone know of any fast mirrors for mandrake 9.0?

This one is fast for me once the connection is made. I download from < www.linuxiso.org >. This is one of the mirrors that are listed there, not linuxiso's mirror. Disks 1 - 3 Mandrake 9.0.

    ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake...-inst.i586.iso
    ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake...2-ext.i586.iso
    ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake...-i18n.i586.iso

Here are the md5sums. You can download the utility at linuxiso. It is part of my Linux system so I don't have to download it myself.

    Type: md5sum filename.iso
And than wait for a minute, the cursor will just sit there, than the check sum will appear after a while. Compare it with the given sums. In dos you might have to rename the iso file to an 8 character name before running md5sum, not sure though. I don't have to mess around with that on Linux. The sums should match, and that tells you that your download was a good one.
    f7a093af34b8cbe1abc165213fea9deb Mandrake90-cd1-inst.i586.iso

    05a3ccafaacc37d6d1e2f260fc274549 Mandrake90-cd2-ext.i586.iso

    1a2fd731fb6e30d39b0b99f504b231b3 Mandrake90-cd3-i18n.i586.iso
If the files 32 digit sums match these than burn them as iso cd images. If I remember than with Roxio, you select data files, than from the file menu you select, cd image, than on the drop down for file type in the dialog box for browsing for the files, make sure that .iso file type is included. Select each file for each individual cd to burn.

It is clogged right now, but I was downloading at 200 mb/s today. I actually downloaded all 3 cd's because some other dude needs them and he doesn't have a cable connection. Try another mirror.

I don't have any limit for downloading, but I'm only able to upload about 200 - 300 mb per month.

Well not totally related to the topic...but it is too funny to keep to myself, I appologize....

In order to test things, legality etc, I just went to try and start downloading it from the mandrake site. Without any intentions to download it all.

I clicked on the ftp link.....and Internet Explorer froze. Conspiricy? hmmmmmm

Oh and I'm running XP Pro, IE rarely freezes.

Cant say I'm shocked ....but I'm envious that "IE rarely freezes" as it always crashed on me no matter what system I had...

I prefer Opera.......the only site it has real difficulty with is...err....funnily enough....Microsoft's

Microsoft's site gives everyone trouble I believe. And I have yet to figure out what insane search algorithm they used for the keyword search feature, it never comes up with what I wanted, even with exact wording.

If you are on the east coast, you might want to try.

    ftp://ruslug.rutgers.edu/pub/mandrake-isos

    or

    ftp://ftp.rutgers.edu/pub/mandrake/Mandrake/iso

Both are hosted at my university... I always pull down distros at near a meg/sec (but I am connected on a LAN to both of them). At home I typically get 400K/sec from cable from those FTPs.

I was refering to the page formatting (its all over the place in opera)...but yeah...I agree the search facility is a law to itself....mind you, from not being able to find certain things, and being sent to a completely unrelated page, I have found a few good articles and manuals....

Back when I used to use IE 6 and Win2k it would unravel itself it I didn't update it every month or two. My best experience has been with Galeon.
