The IQ "Bell Curve" is actually fairly accurate when people understand what it _actually represents_.
IQ is _NOT_, and I emphasize this, NOT a measure of how intelligent you are. It is a measure of how many things you can learn about. Hence it is a matter of exposure.
If you have done, and been exposed to a lot of things, and are young-- your IQ will be very high. As demonstrated by "child prodigy" syndrome, and later the child is unable to 'measure up' to the IQ s/he was tested at as a toddler...
The average person will range somewhere between 110 and 120, so are somewhat more knowledgeable than the "average" bell curve index of 100.
Police Officers in the USA are not allowed to be higher than 104 (they represent jack-booted thugs, anyway). Most African Americans rate 85 or lower. Again, observation bears this number out-- NOT because these people are in any way "stupid", but because they are usually not exposed or knowledgeable about a great deal of things outside of their culture.
I don't consider myself anywhere near 'Genius', but I do have an extremely broad and deep understanding of vast amounts of knowledge. So naturally, I rate very highly on the IQ scale and have all my life. But again-- it's not a measure of intelligence, just my ability to learn.
Even so, I take the number with a grain of salt. I wish I WERE a genius. I know a guy who is over 200 on the scale (no joke)-- he is a BOUNCER at a local pub. he's been on TV, he's known. But he doesn't have any ambition to use his smarts. If I were him, I would be using my greater cogitive powers to answer riddles of the ages, or solve world problems (like waste disposal). But he doesn't. He fritters his time away as a bouncer, and writes his biography... weird.
Go figure.
It is not the spoon that bends, it is you who bends around the spoon.
Just thought I'd throw in my $0.02 and say that along the bell curve thing. A person of an IQ at 200 is not twice as smart at a person at 100. It's not linear.
So um, yeah.
have a good day.
I don't think he was referring to social skills, rather one's personality. IMO, personality is combined from a multitude of traits, such as the degree of interaction one takes with others, one's sense of humour (or possibly lack thereof), one's work ethic, one's honesty, one's kindness, and probably a few others. Somebody doesn't have to be incredibly funny to have a good personality; that person could be really nice and honest. Whereas the other person can interact well with others and has a good sense of humour. Both styles make a good person, IMO. However, some styles appeal to certain people while other styles appear to another group of people. This is where social status comes into play. More often than not, I bet, one's personality determines their social status. The person who is honest and nice might not be the most popular person because there are probably more people out there who find a funny guy more appealing. All in all, though, that nice person doesn't have a bad personality; it's just that nice person falls into a different social status.People are judged too much on their social skills...
Well, after all that rambling I still even need to restate my point. My point is that one's personality is determined by many traits, and a person typically determines their social status. There are always going to be different social statuses for however long humans are alive. It's a fact of life and being bitter about it is not going to solve anything. Actually enough I have no problem with it at all because I feel that I fall into all of those categories.
j/k
EDIT: man, i'm not even sure if i know what i was talking about after all that lol...
I am smart. I am also dumb. It is great to be both because without contrast, neither exists. My .02
