    Computer science majors, a little help please

    Hello, I'm taking a corporate education course so I can fullfill my potential is c programming.

    Could someone tell me if these two course cover everything a typical 4 year college would cover (in the spectrum of programming in c/c++).

    course 1

    I'd guess that'd cover pretty much everything and more. A lot of comp sci courses don't cover much C/C++ anymore, and I think most will shy away from the vendor specific stuff in the your final link. They'd claim that teaching general programming techniques and paradigms would give a better all round education, but if your employer wants you to learn specific stuff then they'd probably disagree.

    W/O even reading your links, I highly doubt it, unless you have a good background in similar languages. Will a corporate course or two bring you up to speed in something someone spent a couple years learning? Maybe if you're a genius.
    Lots of programming relies on similar ideas, so if you know one or two, then yes, you can get a good grasp on another similar language fairly quickly.
    Think language - If you know French, learning Italian isn't as hard. Learning Chinese or !ku (sic) is a whole new thing. And if you don't know French, forget easy Italian

    Well normally a couple of corporate courses won't help if you don't have the background. But from looking at the link, he'll have 350 total hours of class time with the C and C++ course.

    If I remember correctly I probably had 120 hours of class time in my C++ course during my first year of college. But I agree with Enmeduranki, you won't get as much out of it as a 4 year college. Because I don't think you'll get the background necessary to see the overall picture and paradigms of computer science from these courses alone.
    Try not.
    Do or do not.
    There is no try.

    Cool, thanks for the help. The course is 700 hours long total, and I know vb/javascript/asp, and a little php- so I'm not jumping into this with no programming experience whatsoever. I've also been a webmaster for 3 years, and was majoring in computer networking before I dropped out to do this

    I've just gotten started with c/c++ ( www.keystonelearning.com and www.vtc.com ), if you're curious where I'm learning from.

    The course is 7 and 1/2 months long, and every weekday for about 6 1/2 hours a day, long blah

    Well wish me luck, I'll need it :0
