There are also many members of the cobra family, (snakes), in Asia.
Also, COBRA, is the collective name for the COpenhagen, BRussels, Amsterdam school of art, very popular in the latter half of the 20th century. Google search for "Carl Henning Pedersen" or "Asger Jorn" would probably find references.
Troll King:
Did you mean CORBA? If not, I don't know. If yes http://www.corba.org/ is a good start. Borland's products are good for CORBA.
CORBA is kind of like COM, but mediated by a "broker", the ORB in the acronym. It is not a MS specific technology, it was designed to be portable.

Damn your cryptic ways dean !!!
I'm blaming the mispelling on Oreilly books. They all have animals on the covers of their books. I wish it was called COBRA but it's CORBA.
CORBA = Common Object Request Broker Architecture
It is a communication package that is language and operating system independent (or so it claims, I have had some configuration issues with it), but it is lacking in performance.
It is used for parallel processing and distributed systems.
Similair products are MPI and PVM for C, RMI for Java.
It's managed by the OMG, which means it's probably well supported. The Java RMI looks interesting as well.
