    Angry Windows Xp Problems People!!!

Does ANYBODY know how I could possibly get any of the following games working under Windows XP (patches to download, hacks, ANYTHING???!!!)

    - Daggerfall
    - X-Com: Apocalypse
    - Summoner
    - Quake 1
    - Chasm: The Rift

I KNOW that Windows XP is bodgy and that I should use Linux or '98 or something.
I KNOW that Windows XP has serious compatability problems.

NO I wasnt born yesterday when it comes to computers...

I just thought that maybe... Just maybe... There might be someone ought there who knows of a patch or something that could get my favourite games working (no quake, thats just for networking purposes... So don't worry)

    So please? Any suggestions?

X-com and quake works for me. If you want try running those in compatiblity mode (such as win 98) right click on the file goto properties. Goto the compatibility tab, and select the os then try it.

Yeh right . whatever you say. bodgy is not a word I would call XP...compare it to anything else and it rocks..

And anyway, just buy new goddamn games.

Most older games are still the most fun. I still play X-com Ufo Defense, X-com Apoc, Quake 1, Dune 2, and a bunch others. I have quake and both xcom working on my computer with no problem (using compatability mode) Chasm, I haven't played that since I beta tested for it but that should work using compatability mode also.

I have already tried compatability, as I said, I wasn't born yesterday. But they still don't work! Do you people who can run the said games have the latest version of WinXP? If so, where can I get a patch? Any good places people?

    LOL,

Windows XP has trouble playing a win98 game (roller coster tycoon) when you try to load a game. Why wouldn't it have problems with dos games.

And a think about using dos in XP. There is none. If you press F8 before windows loads up, and select run safe-mode command prompt, it loads up windows like it normally does, show the logon screen, logs in as no-one and then opens up a command prompt 'window'. What's the use for that is it loads windows anyway??

Rollercoaster Tycoon was written in asm (no pain no gain and all that), which doesn't really make it a valid Win32 game. This is probably why you are having problems running it on XP. XP may not have problems with DOS games because it has a DOS emulator. If not though you can always create a DOS boot disk or dual booting with a different o/s. Or getting WineX, or etc.....
