You might notice, that wars are never fought because of
religion. Religion is an easy way to cover up your own
immorality and greed for power, but the purely religious
people will never fight a war.

Jews and Muslims can live in peace anywhere but in Israel
und Palestine. Thats not about religion, it's about land and
    power.

Irish christians are not fighting over religious things... they
are fighting for control or lack of it. Give Ireland to Spain and
you will see how quickly Protestants and Catholics get best
    friends.

Muslims and christians have lived in peace in almost any
country for decades. There is no reason but land and
control thereof that Serbs and Bosnians should fight
    each other.

Osama is not fighting for his believes. He is fighting to drive
the US out of the arabian sphere of influence. He said so
himself. It's not about god. It's about land and money and
    power.

It's always only greed that drives people to go to war.
And it's easy to cover it up with religion, because religion
    leaves no room to argue.

No, Canada and the US have good connections, peace and
share the same view as how the borders should be drawn.

When one party doesn't like the present state, it will begin
a war, civil or foreign. So now, they can either call it justified
by greed, saying it's their right to change the present state
because they can, or they can go the easy way and
tell the world it's for their believes. It's easy to argue with
reasonable people, but you can't argue with a 'believer'
about his faith. If his faith tells him to kill, it's senseless to
talk about peace. If it tells him to conquer, he will. And he
doesn't even have to abide to the morals that apply. He
is believing in his cause and that's his justification for
doing everything his greed tells him.

Other than that, neither the US nor Canada are being
controlled by a system that resembles a medieval monarchy.

( Oh, and Canada is not worth fighting over, they don't have
anything the US needs... just kidding )

Right. Whatever you say, Dean... I guess it's time to start looking for a new place to live now.

Religion may not be the primary cause of war, but it is certainly a powerful tool which leaders use to bend the masses; a brainwashing instrument to eliminate fear, doubt, and rationality.

As far as this month's terrorism is concerned, religion most certainly was the root cause. The suicide bombers didn't kill themselves out of "greed". They thought that their God wanted them to crash the planes, and would reward them for it.

I think if people used their own common-sense morals instead of those passed down by religious texts and traditions, and treated life - their own and others' - as if it were finite and not eternal, the world would be a better place.

Blaming problems on Religion is as bad as people who use Religion to justify their actions.

Look at what has happened in Afghanistan - the Taliban has used the Islamic Religion to support and perpetuate their fascist regime. But does this imply that Religion is responsible? No it isn't.

Look at the history of Afghanistan in the past 20 years. 1980 - the (former) USSR invaded and set up a "puppet" government. So war breaks out between the mujhadeen and pro-Soviet Afghanis. The USA and Britain supply, train, and aid the Afghani rebels. 1989 and the war with the Soviets more or less ends. But Afghanistan is broke and still involved in civil war. So fanatical supporters of Islam and Afghanistan say "Look what has happened to the country. The US was here and now we are broke". To anyone who is thinking rationally, the reason why Afghanistan is broke is because of years of war, and because the country has no industry to support it. 10 years go by and the Taliban regime grows in strength, aided by "the Base" and Osama bin Laden. bin Laden believes the US to be responsible for the hardships that plague Afghanistan. He himself is an extremist Muslim.

Now he and the Taliban rule with an iron fist - what they say goes. They are using the Islamic Religion to justify their beliefs and to keep people in check. Islam is not to blame! It has been manipulated and construed in such a way by the Taliban, so that it suits their purposes.

This is not a conflict of religion.

The UN, NATO, and the US are not out to get every Islamic man, woman and child. Whilst the Taliban may declare Jihad they have indeed taken the notion of a holy war in order to justify their actions.

It is a conflict of the haves and the have-nots.

Because things aren't that simple. Life isn't that simple. Religion is NOT to blame. People are.

Yes, it's that simple. Drop the religious plauge and we can have a better world. If you want to read the bible than go ahead but treat it as literature, and shut up about it.
