My uni first year course does Java, which I am in. We are supposed to use CodeWarrior by Metroworks. But its expensive so dont go that route. Goto www.sun.com and get the JDK.

Btw, are you in first year or what? If not, what did you guys do for first year?

So far, Java seems easier that C/C++, but thats probably because I already know C++.
    Its all in your mind...

i started uni last year but had to leave because of my health, so i am starting my 1st year again, and i have to learn java, i bought abook and it looks pretty similar to c++, so thats not too bad, i supose it could have been worse. It could have been pascal or vb!
i want to try ang get some java apps done before my first programming lecture i have a book and need a jdk/compiler. the sun one is a little big, ill have to ask ITS if i cab d.l it to a cdr and tyhen i can put it on my laptop.

I use JBuilder - its great. Its got a tool that keeps track of syntax errors as you go along.

If you fancy the free route, get the Java JDK and JCreator (This IDE closely resembles VC++)
