    flag burning (don't flame!)

the only purpose for this thread's existance is to poll the visiting cprogramming.com population. a similar poll was done at flashdaddee, and i'm just trying to confirm it. please keep any opinions on the us constitution thread. i don't want two threads arguing over the same topic.

I don't think the results will be too much different than from Flashdaddee. Even if they are, both you and I know which side will still have the majority of votes.

    Vote you people!

To violate the 1st amendment of the United States' Constitution would be letting the flag-burners win. We cannot limit one's free speech just because we disagree with them, because the whole point of the 1st amendment is to allow free speech.

is this only about the stars and stripes or can other nations join in ??

if anyone wants to burn a flag, let em. as long as its theirs.

i get far more upset over idiots defacing Winston Churchill's statue like recently, and defacing war memorials and monuments to the fallen. these people should be shot.

flag == your own country's flag, whatever it is

please, please don't speak your opinion here... there's another perfectly good thread resting away in the general board.

Burn any flag you like, yours or others or McD's.

Like Stevie I am more concerned with other things, like the French putting an airport on Aussie Diggers graves.

burning in effigy != burning a flag
although there's probably someone who might argue that point

I dont care really, a flags a flag. Just a piece of cloth, so long as it doesn't belong to me they can all burn. I can understand why some people dont feel the same though.

I don't think the flag should matter at all. In my opinion the flag in no way resembles the country. Personally I live in america and I love the country but you know what? Our damn government sucks majorly. Our democracy is far from the capitalistic state they claim it to be. Okay nevermind, i'm just going to shutup here before this starts a big debate.

Flag burning is the proper way to put an old flag out of service. It is ceremonially burned with high honor and respect. People who don't care for their country's flag are people who don't care for their country. Such people should emigrate elsewhere.

    >eople who don't care for their country's flag are people who don't care for their country.<

The flag means one thing to this person, and something else to another. To people like me, it's an over-rated piece of cloth...but that's just my opinion.

    >Such people should emigrate elsewhere.<

Why? That's like saying I should change schools because I don't like the basketball team there or something...

A country's flag is a symbol of that country. Symbolism is important and shouldn't be looked down upon. Disrespecting a flag is disrespecting what it represents.

Actually I disagree with you on that one. I think of the flag more of what we would consider an id card. It is nothing but a piece of cloth that distinguishes one place for another. I look around at all the different flags. Hell McDonalds has a flag with a big M hanging up over where I live. The symbols on flags don't even represent really anything at all to a country (with a few exceptions).
