Unhappy loading DOS app before XP startup: is it even possible?

here's the story:
before I even start up my computer, my friend being a "show off" and all demonstrates that he can bypass the security. when he did it, he reminded me of the safe mode startup. now I feel mad since he made a fool out of me for not knowing this since I didn't have this on mind. anyway, I'm just wondering if it is even possible to load up a pure DOS application ( such as "command.com" ) before you see the logon screen in XP. thanks.

Yes that should be possible. Thats why you can't make a boot floppy that can read NTFS. I don't see how this makes him bypass any security. He can format and fdisk and all that stuff but he can't get access to any info if you are using ntfs. If you want to stop this change the boot sequenze in your Bios and put a password on it

"you can't make a boot floppy that can read NTFS"

Are you sure?

I personally haven't used the above, but i have used other utilities that allow you to access NTFS partitions.

there is a boot disk which allows you to change any of the passwords on a 2000/xp/server machine (as long as AD isn't loaded)

or better yet, does anyone know how to run a DOS application before logon? what files do I need to change? is it boot.ini?
also, you can disable the floppy boot under the BIOS during startup so that's one problem removed.
