You really need to have seen the Austrian Grand Prix to appreciate the depths to which commercialism affects the "sport".

What happened was Rubens Barichello was clearly winning the race, but on the last couple of laps, his team issued orders saying that he should pull over and let his team mate, Michael Schumacher win and claim the points.

I thought the reaction of the crowd summed up that decision, (boo's, whistles, thumbs down gestures).

To be fair to Schumacher, he did insist Barichello stood on the winners podium and gave him the trophy.

A total aside, wasn't the Heidfeld/Sato crash nasty. I heard later that Sato was okay, but it sure looked a bad bump.

I like how the Williams' boss complained about it but it was his order to do exactly the same, in the same race, in 1998 that caused them to clarify the rules.

As M Sch. said "We would look pretty stupid if we lost the championship by that amount"
    (M Sch == 44, R B == 6 points)

It would be interesting to know if any of the Ferrari team members and key decision makers have any bets on things like:

How many races will Michael Schumacher win this season.
How many points he'll win the championship by.
That he'll win with over N points where N is a large integer.

F1 has become stale and boring and needs to come up with something to revitalise it otherwise it will just die.

I personally feel Barichello has been made a sucker while he has been working for Ferrari. He's a much better driver than to play second fiddle to Schumacher. This is going to happen to him till Schumacher is around.

I sometimes feel sorry for RB.

    Thats true.

Yeah. It has ceased to be an interesting spectator sport. After the start, it is a procession, punctuated by pit stop strategy and team orders.

FIA flattened the rules, (everyone had to have the same tyres, (basically), everyone has the same this, that and everything). The thing with F1 years ago, was the surprise element when some team from nowhere turned out a winner with something innovative, (remember the Brabham sucker car?). Innovation is the key.

As I said earlier, I guess commercial pressure kills all of that. Sponsors call the shots.

i kind of went of it after my hero Ayrton Senna died. truly tragic...
(and of course the guy the day b4.....)

guess we are a bit wimpy about it nowadays, in the old days they were dropping like flies !!
btw, there wasn't much in the way of team orders when Senna and Prost were in the same team !!!

pity they can't build some more circuits, with more big long straights to make overtaking easier... i can't abide those big ovals like the Indy car, jeez, but circuits where its too hard to pass each other is also a pain....ie Monaco.... it's a traditional circuit, but how are you supposed to get past ???

why do teams have 2 cars ??? why not just one ????

    >How could Ferrari do this.

Perhaps Ferrari wants to be the team with the highest score ever. If MS should share his points with RB, they would never reach that goal. The only way is to let MS win as much races as possible, so if necessary RB has to let MS win. It has nothing to do with sport, but with Ferrari wanting to be the best team ever. I don't know if this is the real reason, just guessing.

But there are two championships, constructors and drivers.
Ferrari got maximum points in the constuctors championship whichever way round MS\RB finished. The only time Driver A overtakes Driver B is if Driver B is in the pits, crashing or ordered out of the way.

As for gifting MS the points that doesn't go to show they're the best team. They've got the best cars, hence a 1,2 finish and the current best driver. To show they're best they should let me swap cars with MS and see if I could beat him.

I hope the FIA reverses the result, ie drops MS 4 points gives RB 4 points and fines Ferrari 16 points.

I think thats a mighty fine suggestion. McLaren were brought to the FIA about the "gentlemans agreement" between DC & MH at the first race a couple fo seasons back where they agreed between themselves that the one to the first corner second would allow the one to the first corner first past to win the race in the event of a McL 1/2... MH got to the corner 1st and DC moved over on the final lap for him - Ferrari went MENTAL if i recall correctly (tho i cant assure u i do )
