Hell, ya. Mostly old ones: Civ, Stars, Warlods II, some others so old i cant remember the names off hand.
>>same with diablo2 (it suxs like hell, so slow)
Whoa. Careful there buddy. ;) You're mocking the game that i was addicted to for, like, 1/2 a year of my life. I had 4 85+ level characters and the other 4 were none lower than 45. ... Wasted so much time playing that game...
I dont play a lot of games tho really. Spend too much time designing my own.
i am gona wait for some more posts b4 i reply to ur and maybe some other posts ;)
>who here plays UT?
MEEMEMEMEMEMEMMEMEMEMEMEEEE!!!!!!
i bust ass in UT... i was almost ON TOP DAMN NETGAMES IS **** right as i come into the top rankings(29th) it F's up my stats and the next day without playing im like 3000th!!! BS MAN!! it ate half my damn kills! the piece of ****.
as you can tell im still ........ed. and this was a year+ ago...
>and who is gona buy UNREAL2
o yeah.
>same with diablo2 (it suxs like hell, so slow)
to many thing i didn't ike about this game...
though Diablo was great.
> TURN BASED STRADeGY games
the closest i come is the Fallout series
BTW: who do you play as?? hehehe
I love turn-based strategy games. The project I'm working on now is turn-based. X-Com was the game that made me want to be a developer in the first place.
Lately, though, I've been playing Ages of Empires II a lot. Since I set my LAN up at the house I only play games that I can run over it.
I like unreal, and diablo....preety cool games! Good grafix good music(diablo2):D
i dont play UT anymore, broke the CD, now i am gona barrow my friends. BUT anyway, i can kickur **s in that game.
it is not a turn based stradegy game.Quote:

don't kid yourself... i am the Master!
ahhh X-Com those were the days...
Final Fantasy Legend on GameBoy...!
the Age Of Empires Series are the best games ive seen in my life. I have all four, playing online and beating everyone.
come on NO-ONE
i can beat u with my monitor turned off
regardless of watever match u play (ie ctf, deathmatch, etc)
u may be master but you are not god like, like i am
;)
(i like you less and less with every post you meak, dayknight)
The game i play the most these days is Final Fantasy Tactics... i just got over a brief Civ 3 binge. I thoroughly enjoy Ogre Battle games as well.
Diablo 2 was ok... Blizzard couldn't play balance it for their lives and that was its main flaw.

In Diablo2 the character movement suzs so much that i rather not talk about it also that some spells move slowly. It doesnt stop there, You got to see there Online Play, it suxs more than those free beta testing online games.
i will leave more for my next posts, so you got to wait until you extremely hate me! :p
i played D2 online for maybe 3 months seriously, and i found the services of blizzard to be slow, laggy, and generally non-fun.
Regarding movement and spells: yeah, sometimes they could be slow, but i didn't find it that unnapealing. It was mainly the dupers and the complete lack of play balancing that shut me off to the game.
Exactly, and also like in their multi they dont have deathmatch, ctf, and all those fun things
IF u still think Diablo2 is good, go try NOX (even the demo will beat it)
Return to castle Wolfenstein!
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast!
Warcraft III beta!
I was addicted to Diablo II for while... but the game I played THE MOST was StarCraft...
I just recently put that one down :)
hmm WARCRAFT 3 beta
i wonder where u got that from
lol
Blizzard sent it to me... where else?
Real men play games that are at LEAST a decade old. Did anybody ever play those old Sierra Quest for Glory games? "So you want to be a hero" "Trial by fire" etc. My God those were great. Not to mention roguelikes! I'm still addicted to Nethack and Moria. I also love online textbased RPGs, like The Two Towers at Angband.com. That game has such a great history. People still hold five year old grudges between clans, etc. I love it
>who here plays UT?

No

Okay graphics for today, but not decent. BTW, it is Half Life: Counterstrike. Counterstrike alone is not a game.
>diablo2 (it suxs like hell, so slow)<
Yes
>who here play TURN BASED STRADEGY games<
Civ II, SMAC, ...
I never said it was turn-based. I said that's what I'm playing now.Quote:

i used to be the Instagb DM King
i now play CTF Insatgib exclusively...
though i have been known to run the instagib LMS and DM circuits.

I went and bought Delta Force: Land Warrior.

>>TURN BASED STRADeGY games
Yep, that's my kind of game. Civ, Panzer General etc. Besides, there is no other strategy than turn based. All that real-time stuff is not strategy. You don't have the strategic choice. It's all about building a whole mass of troops and applying the steamroller tactics, because the computer will always outmanouever you in a one on one because you only have one mouse at your command.
I also like turn based tactical games like FallOut Tactics, Jagged Alliance or Ufo/X-Com.
>who thinks counterstrike is a good game
Me. I like the new 1.4 version. No more Nike-Bunnies jumping all over the place.
>Final Fantasy Legend on GameBoy
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh hh.... Part I and II...
wasn't that more of a roleplaying game though ?
>Nethack
Oh no, don't get me started on these stuff... simple and ugly, but soooo addicting... I saw a windows version for download recently...
>wasn't that more of a roleplaying game though ?
well... yeah! but who cares they were awesome anyway.
>

wanna talk about adictive eh?
Ascendancy.
by far the most adictive game ever.
You have to pay for Infantry now?????
:eek::eek::eek:
I have to check this out, Infantry was a mad game!!! Noooooooooooo...
  :( :(
Hey hey, ok, maybe CS is not all that great (expecially with their latest release 1.4, they should all die) but Lets give half-life some credit here. That game was amazing, its whole story was great. and for comming out in 98 and being the main structure for CS its still kicking ass. Has anyone looked at the code for that?? AI is amazing!!..
also, Blizzard, i liked all of their games, how could anyone not like Starcraft. D2, i played it for a while. but it takes ages to get anywhere or to find anything good to use, i usually ended up going to town and buying a better weapon then finding one, lol.:D :D
But lets hold on a sec here, Fallout takes the cake for RPGs.. Story... kickass... Love the whole post-apocaliptic feel it had, it would be so cool to live after the bombs fell.. and the 50's intro's, LOL... funny as hell... loved all 3. But Fallout and Fallout 2 were the best, they had a kickass story.
Quake III is sooo much better than Unreal Tournament. Every non-moron knows this. :)
Doom 3 is going to be superior, in every way,
to Unreal 2.
Unreal Tournament 2003 looks good, but if it's
anything like the first UT, it's going to suck.
If you like strategy... try the Commandos series..
It's amazing, the level designers must have been geniuses, a lot of thought was put into that game... and it shows.
Diablo II, the expansion set ruined it. Period. I'm not saying it couldn't have been good, but like I think Aran said... it wasn't balanced. The economy was a major screw up... it was based on certain items, which were very easy to come across (plus all the duping) instead of gold and trading. Experience was too easy to come across in the expansion (you could be level 80+ in less than a week. Hell, I read a story about a guy who got to level 99, 4 days after a ladder reset) if they made the monsters harder... then making friends and teaming up is another factor which would have enriched the gameplay.
I found Wolfenstein multiplayer extremely fun... Counter-Strike was good for awhile, but it just got too redundant. Medal of Honor may turn out to be good... I'm buying it this weekend. Anyone play it yet?
regarding diablo 2:
here's why i stopped playing:
1. Blizzard added 2 new classes and made three classes relatively worthless.
2. The economy consisted of SOJs.
3. Koreans (no offense, but the Koreans on US West were the most annoying people ever)
4. Rampant PKing in hardcore mode (AGH!)
5. The game was sending me on the fast lane to carpel tunnell with its click and kill madness.
6. Too many scamming -expletive-s
7. Goddamn dupers.
8. A playerbase that sucked.
9. Unreliable servers
10. bugs, bugs, bugs.
the lesson: DON'T PLAY D2 IF YOU WANT YOUR SANITY/LIFE.
Age of Empires - brilliant but i want to find the most realistic warfare games...something with Roman legions mebe.....
also something like Panzer General but better.....
didn't anybody like Wargasm, Rogue Spear or Operation Flashpoint ???
i'm gonna get medal of honour, its just that i daren't right now, i get so addicted !!!
i guess i'm just an armchair soldier:)

Quake 3, i heard that this game doesnt have any Multiplayer challenge such as ctf, deathmatch, n other. So u cant even come close to compare this game with UT ( cuz UT is unreal! ).
Doom 3 is going to be superior, in every way,
to Unreal 2.
Doom 3, lol, i nearly forgot about that game. But anyway i dont think so.
Epic studios had done a great job in making the UNREAL engine
which is so stable, and runs amzingly fast.
( i can assure any1 on the web that for the next 2 years none game can beat UNREALTOURNAMENT beside UNREAL 2)
Unreal Tournament 2003 looks good, but if it's
anything like the first UT, it's going to suck.
i think u are talking about unreal.
unreal was equalavalent to QUAKE 3, but UT is much more better than that.'
TO nvoigt:
Stradegy games and TURN based stadegy games are different. 1 thing most of us can agree upon is that anything that is TURNBASED is for non-hardcore gamers.
Among the strdegy games AOE2 is the best so far
and yes u got to use stradegy in the game if u ever want to win
that is if u play moderate of hard.
(for people who play TURNBASED if they ever think of playing AOE2, plz start with eaziest lvl)
hellyaQuote:

Where the freak did all that text that you quoted
me come from? I didn't even say half of that...
You're wrong, anyway. Unreal Tournament is
comparable to Quake III. Both are online, MP games.
Argh! That above post was made by me. I could've
sworn I was logged in... Double Argh! I can't
edit the grammar, either... You know what I meant.
One series of turn-based games that I can never seem to get to much of is WORMS. A little bit of action and strategy mixed in with a load of laughs. Currently, I have been playing WORMS World Party. Great game to unwind to after a long day. Just kick your shoes off, recline, and blow **** up! :D
David
Turn based I find more enjoyable than RTS.
Heroes of Might & Magic series for example. RTS is all about flooding not tactics. Liked Empire Earth RTS though, fleets of nukes bombers lighting up the screen.
Currently we play Dungeon Siege on LAN. Great graphics and built with multiplayer coop in mind. Like Diablo2 meets D&D (Baldurs Gate) in style.
Operation Flashpoint was great on LAN except if you got killed first and spent too much time as a seagull (swear the PC could shoot you thru a brick wall). Played that coop rescue mission 1000+ times and only rescued 1 hostage total (too trigger happy with grenades). Some great missions on the net. Ghost Recon was similar.
>>Operation Flashpoint was great on LAN except if you got killed first and spent too much time as a seagull (swear the PC could shoot you thru a brick wall).
:) true, giving me a tendency to be cowardly and hide at the back !! bit like i'd be if a real soldier i guess.
i noticed one bug, unless it was just on one mission. planted a satchel charge and retreated to a very safe distance. couldn't resist looking thru binoclears to view my handiwork as i set it off.
but when i did it killed me even tho i was laying down miles away !! obviously assumed i was closer since i was looking at it magnified ??? :(
friendly fire also a major problem !!! especially with me, you don't want to be in front of me !!:) it is hard to id the enemy/friendlies and not to be trigger happy !!
Xterria, is that even a real word? :confused:Quote:

AOE2 rocks! I haven't played it online yet but we play it over the LAN all the time. You gotta' love those Trebuchets!!.
>>anything that is TURNBASED is for non-hardcore gamers.
I disagree. Depends on why you're playing. Warcraft II was a fun game but really the only tactics were:
1) Exploit the incredible AI stupidity
2) Make sure your peons havent gotten stuck somewhere
3) Build lots and lots of units
Games like 'Civilizations' require much more strategy.
Am I the only one that thinks Doom is still a really good game? :)
Best Strategy games (IMO)
Commandos (1 and 2)
Fallout 2.
StarCraft: Brood Wars - You may not think so if you've ever played on battle.net... it's based around a map called 'BGH' which totally ruins the strategic aspects of the game.
Warcraft III - This is less fun than StarCraft was, but it's strategy++.
The AOE's are based around massing units... there is no 'Micromanagment' involved... something which Blizzard RTS' coined.
D2 is coming out with a new 'huge' patch 1.10 which is supposidly supposed to resolve the unbalanced issues...
I might pick it up again if it turns out to be fixed :)
fish u wouldnt call fallout a stradgy game because it is a turn-based rpg game
i just hate the word turn based, it is so lame.
AOE2 has alot of stradegy involvoled.
U must have accruate timing, and rite troops to fight the nme
unless ur playing lvl eaziest (or is there lvl < eziest)
You can easily mass and win on RTS games, but you cannot win with massing units in TBS.
Eg. Civ II, SMAC.
try takeing an army of 75 troops infront of my 3 castles(infront of my town centre) n u will loze.
Charge!! My 100,000 men and 10,000 catapults!!
AOE2 is v. cool but my 56k modem wont allow online play (cutoff after 2 hours :().
CS1.4 is very cool, best version I have played but laggy on some servers.
And the King of all great games has to be Worms - in any format you care to mention. It is so great its unbelievable, I have to get a copy of Worms World Party, or whatever the online version is called!!
lol, then for that my 100 castles and 500 knights(or DayKnights)Quote:

No, I didn't include it because I've never played it.Quote:

AOE may involve a lot of strategy, but these games involve much more :)
who here plays Random map in AOEII/Conquerors?
Anyone wanna play me?
>>i noticed one bug, unless it was just on one mission. planted a satchel charge and retreated to a very safe distance. couldn't resist looking thru binoclears to view my handiwork as i set it off.

Never noticed that.
Sometimes you could be hidden and an enemy would run right over you, even as you tried to shoot him. Cause he did not see you he does not come back. You can then turn around and shoot him in the back.
>>friendly fire also a major problem !!! especially with me, you don't want to be in front of me !! it is hard to id the enemy/friendlies and not to be trigger happy !!
We had someone like that. Killed the other two with his M60 before running me over with a truck. All in one mission.
My problem was with the hostages, not many survive with me in the rescue team.
>lol, then for that my 100 castles and 500 knights(or DayKnights) <
Ok, your castle cannot attack so I don't have to worry. Your 500 knights won't last with 1:500 men ratio, and I didn't mention what kind of men it is... (guys with swords? catapult? flamethrowers!!)
>StarCraft and Warcraft III have all of the above, plus damage type, armour type, spells, modifiers, terrain bonuses etc. <
True, true. "Here here!!" :) But money maps will ruin the entire multiplayer aura...
Half Life: Counter-Strike has to be the best game ever.
my knights will not attack ur infantry but the catapults, while my castles will kill ur infantry
so i dont have to worry at all!
that is called stradegy
read: "castles cannot attack".
they can't attack, so how can they kill wraiths troupes?
Yes, for newbies. Warcraft 3 has much needed filters, so you can filter out all the lame mass money maps.Quote:
True, true. "Here here!!" But money maps will ruin the entire multiplayer aura...
ofcousre castles can attack
they shoot arrows
>ofcousre castles can attack <
This is some mistakes that almost all RTS games make... Some lame arrows can take out a catapult.
Close Combats had done a great job on this... only other tanks and rockets can kill tanks. Flamethrowers cannot kill tanks.
>Yes, for newbies. Warcraft 3 has much needed filters, so you can filter out all the lame mass money maps.<
Then no-one will play with non-money's. They should set it that if resource counts is higher than certain limits, it will not count.
They have that feature... any non-blizzard certified map won't count on your record.. and if they're not stupid, they won't certify any mass money maps.
who are you people kidding?
REAL RTS players play Total ANnihilation.
Jeez, you people are such uncultured RTS players. I like TA so much mroe than Starcraft/Warcraft and the Command and Conquer games.
Dude, I love TA!! I got the patch from Cavedog about 6 months ago (late bloomer!) and my son and I have massive LAN wars in TA! Haven't tried TA:Kingdoms yet though, but I've heard it's good.Quote:
