    >>>germany bans na zi web-sites online. this forum (or at least flashdaddee, i think this one too) bans the word nazi. does this include the topic of who is most credited for the success at world war 2?

well, ygfperson, that was a very well argued post....

looks like nazi isn't banned !

i doubt many Germans find the word offensive, or discussing WW2 offensive........you have to give them some credit.
when i was at uni, we had 4 Germans on our course. it turned out that one of our lecturers had bombed their home town in the war...and one of their grandads had bombed Sheffield...we all thought it was funny....youve got to laugh......all this "don't mention the war" is rubbish, as if they give a monkeys.......

We don't. Nazi websites are banned in Germany, because it's forbidden to show Nazi symbols in anything but documentaries, to glorify warcrimes, to deny or lie about what happend in the death camps etc. As Nazi sites are doing right that, we ban them, if their server is located in Germany. We cannot ban them if the server is outside of Germany, as hate speeches with the intend to act them out aren't illegal in some countries, but strangely seen as free speech.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.

The word "nazi" was not on the original censor list at flashdaddee because we do as little censorship as possible.
However, during one colorful thread the n-word was used like
a battering ram by several members who at that time had some
personal history problems with each other. So, in the name of
peace and quiet and harmony the n-word was banned in an
attempt to cool things down. Thus, it wasn't the word itself that
was banned but rather the emotional heat that the word generates among different segments of our society. Things have
cooled down quite a bit since those early days and no new words
have been added to the censor list because no has complained
about the off-color language we sometimes use for expression's sake. But the n-word is still there, isolated and quarentined from
from our peaceful society where it can do no harm.

For the most part our language policy is not to censor anything
until our members actually misuse a word to point where it
becomes necessary to take the word out of circulation for the
good of the community. Just because a kid is a preteen doesn't
necessarily mean you have to protect her/him from acting like
an adult. We like to think the kids appreciate that fact and will
respect our rights as a way of showing that respect. So far so
    good I'm happy to say.
