Delphi is great, it's easy-to-use, using the built-in visual components even a child can build a simple but functional program.
I wouldn't use anything else for e.g. building a database application, especially when the job has to be done quickly.

Besides, Object Pascal is really easy to understand.

Voting with "No" without arguments ... well
I guess the guys don't even know what's Delphi.

    - Why don't programmers from India go to U.S. to find a job?
    - ???
    - Because they can only program in Delphi.

Please don't flame me too hard for this, but don't the same arguments hold true for VB?? Nice IDE, easy DB connection etc?

I must admit, I tend to prototype in VB, cos I can get a quick & dirty dem running in a couple of hours........ quite often I then just leave it at that cos it works!

(BTW, I didn't vote cos I know nothing of Delphi)

Once I made a small program in VB, just for fun. It was a tiny demo, some bitmaps, nothing special.
I copied the exe to a floppy disk to show it to my colleagues.

On the other computer it said: xxx dll not found, yyy ocx not found, etc.

So, I went back and copied on other 2 disks the reaquired stuff.
When I tried to run the program, it still needed another dll's...
    The tale that never ends...

Delphi doesn't need to be installed on the computer where you want to run your program. It's a great tool, that's my opinion.

Yeah, it's a good point Carlos. Must admit to being gobsmacked when I first wrote something in C and I didn't need an installation routine to run it on another PC. VB does tend to be a little "flabby"!!!

The lanuage behind Delphi (Pascal) is also much closer to the power and flexibility of C/C++ and it's cross platform (GUI too using CLX). You can't say that about VB. RobR's right, they are similar products though (both RAD development tools).

dayknight: have you programmed in pascal before? it's a good programming language to say the least. I haven't looked to deeply into Object Pascal, but from what i've seen it is viable.

(i programmed in pascal for a year before i started C++)

I used to program in Pascal before C, it is a very nice language. I've done object oriented programming in Pascal (Turbo Pascal) and it was quite easy and clear programming. Though I've no experience with Object Pascal and Delphi, though I will vote yes, since it is never wrong to learn something.

I saw a mag the other day offering a free version of Delphi 6 - I think I might get it and fool around with some time. I've done a bit of Pascal before, it's not that bad really.
