america has always had its black underbellie of hatred, death, and curruption.... it never changes.

It's just more visible now because the mass media is ridiculous.

Hmm, this intelligent answer is actually a refreshing spin on the whole pseudo, misinformed thread. Here's some food for thought:

    - British Cars are the fastest (leaking) objects on the face of this planet.

    - The French eat snails.

    - Jamie Oliver isn't a very good cook.

    - The Europeans cocky attitudes

    - The decentralized toilet system; what's up with not having any toilet paper, and those slanted boards with a pole in front of them that you grab onto and lean backwards towards a whole in the wood board while trying to take a crap? I know "it's for washin yeh backside", but it always leaves a muddy mess of poop everywhere.

-Pollution; sure, LA has smog, but when you come back from London, you sneeze black stuff out of your nose for a week.

-Your education system; you test kids at the mere age of 12 and use that do force them to decide what to do with the rest of their lives. Here, we are forced to put every kid through 12 grade levels, and the only reason your educational system has a better ranking is because in America, we can't kick out the problematic students and must include them in surveys.

-The only good European sitcom ever was "Red Dwarf"; "Chef" never needed to be made, neither did that "Mr. Bean" crap.

    - Black Pool, Pleasure Beach is in no way comparable to Cedar Point; CP is 100 times larger and better.

On another point, if your europeans are really looking for a way to find more reasons to hate us americans, I reccomend "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. Zinn is a pessimist, and your pessimist continent would like that.

Like it's any different in Ireland. At least in the US, we have the decency to get into gun fights because "Mad Poppa G. Money" hustled Crazy Tony P. wrong and Tony couldn't get da greens and didn't like Poppa's "bidness" ethics and had to slug him while the Cryps bring the BK's and the Bloods bring the CK's. Point: the US fight senselessly; Ireland fights over Catholics and Protestants. It's practically the same ****ing religion! And don't get me started on the British oppression of the Irish.

Don't go around thinking that the United States is some dark spot on your purgated soul, becaus the rest of the world isn't any better.

As benefits a nation originally settled by misfits, convicts, adventurers and religious fanatics ( a demographic mix that hasn't changed hardly at all in 400 years ), the United States retains a strong flavor of intransigent non-cooperation. Americans are proud to be American - it's the best country in the world - but each individual will explain that he, personally, is not like other Americans.

( Great book and dead funny. Get some of this series. The Guide to Germans is hilarious if you have ever been here. )

    A few corrections.....

"Pollution; sure, LA has smog, but when you come back from London, you sneeze black stuff out of your nose for a week. "

No way, London is nothing NOTHING compared to LA, i lived in London for 16 years, i went LA on holiday, and i could not believe the smog.

"Your education system; you test kids at the mere age of 12 and use that do force them to decide what to do with the rest of their lives"

?? GCSE's are at 16 not 12, (thats for England) the French use the bachalores (sp?) and they take them at 17 i think. Don't know about the other countries.

British higher-education takes people to the same standard as American yet takes 4 years less time to get them there. Universities are pretty much free here (though thats gonna change).

"The only good European sitcom ever was "Red Dwarf"; "Chef" never needed to be made, neither did that "Mr. Bean" crap. "

What the hell is "Chef"? BlackAdder and Faulty-Towers are easily the best comedy series EVER.

I would add "Yes minister" to that list.

I've seen a few episodes of that, and would say the jury is out. I don't think it has ever been broadcast here, I've seen it when I was in England so must be 5-6 years ago. It's with David Jason - yes?

That's right, and Nicholas Lyndhurst. You need to watch quite a few episodes and really get to know the characters before it becomes hilarious, and then it really DOES become hilarious!!

    >>>And don't get me started on the British oppression of the Irish.

yes, please don't get me started again.............
on the other hand, go on, lets see your ignorance...........

    on a happier note...

"chef" i think is the crappy thing with Lenny Henry ????
i was truly awful, nobody watched it here, surprised the BBC managed to sell it !!!!

to good UK sitcoms i'd add Porridge, The Likely Lads.......not many good new ones though are there ??
not sitcom but "have i got news for you" is brilliant!

you have to give credit where credit is due -i think the Simpsons, Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier, cheers are some of the best.....

any country that gave the world The Simpsons can't be all bad, its the funniest thing ever...."don't worry boy's he's got to come out sometime..." (police chief Wiggum, when Homer's head has been turned into a doughnut !!!!)

And what about when the guy who owns the bar gets a US Navy standard fryer that can flash fry an entire cow in 30 seconds, Homer orders a steak and when told it would take a few seconds replies "Oh! I wanted it now!!". Brilliant!!

Not keen on other American sitcoms though. Friends is good but I have never understood Frasier or Roseanne or anything.

But yes "Have I got news for you" is quality. And "They think it's all over", "Never mind the buzzcocks", "Shooting Stars" and the first couple of series of "Harry Enfield and Chums" (the rest were a bit c***. Never really been a fan of modern sitcoms either....."The Royle Family", "Father Ted","Gimme Gimme"...not funny in the slightest in my opinion.

    >I did not mention the Taliban or Bin Laudin in my post.
No, but you think it's ok to let them do what they do as going after them results in the deaths of inocent people. Not one time in history have people over came being surpresed, and deprived with out their blood. Freedom comes out the price of blood.

    >So what exactly happens to someone on holiday in the US who commits / is accused of a crime? (by your reasoning nothing can)
If your laws only apply to US citizens, as you always point out.
How can the US hold foreign citizens for crimes it has no evidence they were involved in?
answer take away ALL their rights and hold them in Cuba. (I'm not saying they should be free, but why refuse to release them to their respective countries? Why not let them have a lawyer? Why treat them in a way you would not want your prisoners treated?)<

Do you really think it would be wise to keep these people in afginistan, the chance of escape is to high.

now thats comedy mate !!!! i'm laughing now just thinking about it, we should have a regular thread of "whats your favourite The Simpsons" moment !! in fact i'm gonna do it now.....
it would cheer people up and make a change to arguing, "sucks" posts......altho i don't mind a mini argument myself...

youve got the same sense of humour as me, except i rather liked Father Ted !!
