    Have you ever seen a successful drug user ?

    There might be rich drug users.
    There might be intelligent drug users.
    There might be responsible drug users.
    But have you ever seen a successful one ?

    Happy ? Satisfied ? At peace ?

    I only know people with problems using drugs.

    Well, yeah... Just because someone uses drugs occasionally doesn't mean their lives automagically go to hell. If they abuse them, then probably it will, but it's not a certainty...

    I didn't mean that I knew how this phenomenon can be explained. I wouldn't say drugs lead to an unhappy life without fail. It's more that you don't need drugs if you have a fulfilled life. And consequently, the only drug users I know, who are far from abusing it, are the least happy people. Not unhappy, but generally, of all people I know, those who use drugs are those I wouldn't want to change lives with.

    Drugs change your way of being in control of things. Drugs make you lose control. If someone isn't happy with how things run when s/he is in control of her/his own actions, maybe it would be better to change reality than changing the perception of reality through drugs.

    I'm not a saint. Though I never used illegal drugs ( weed is one in Germany ), there are enough legal ones out there, the first being alcohol. Using alcohol as a way to change perception of reality is not good. Downing another Tequila shot before talking to that hotie at the bar should not be the way to deal with problems.

    Also, for me there is always one additional level of drug (ab)use.
    If you drink a beer with friends at a bar, it's one level. If you drink one alone at home, it's one step further.

    Well, I don't do em, but Jimmy Carter once said that the only consequence for drugs should be the adverse effects it causes on somebody.

    The thing that chomps my ass about drugs is the violence around the politics of drug dealing. I've seen firsthand somebody get shot over a drug deal, and this was in Ohio in some expensive shopping mall, not a run down inner city alleyway. Needless to say, being the pussy I am, I floored it and got my ass out of the parking lot. When I was 15, I was held up at gunpoint by a crack addict for an entire $15, while the whole time the guy was saying something about some guy named Tony, who I can assume is a drug dealer, coming to collect.

    So, should drugs be illegal? I dunno. But the violence is.

    Oh crap, now he tells us.

    >>Downing another Tequila shot before talking to that hotie at the bar should not be the way to deal with problems.

    Ever notice this formula in effect?

    void HaveOneBeer()
    {
    Beer ++;

    ActualAttractiveness -= 5;
    PerceptionOfAttractivness += 5;
    Desire ++;
    Performance --;
    }

    >>If you drink one alone at home, it's one step further.

    Theres something about a beer after a hard days work in the sun that i really enjoy. Maybe i'm Mr. One Step Further, but what can I say? Its just good.

    The conotations that go with the word "drugs" are the real problem. There are so many things that we dont think twice about that have the same effects as the things we label "drugs" but we dont think twice about the legal ones. But the truth as I see it in other people is that (as someone mentioned) peoples lives tend to become messed up from excessive drug use. Its not propaganda, its just what I've seen happen with my own two eyes. Theres two sides to everything though. Its not as black and white as some make it out to be.

    >IMHO, the act in itself can not be responsible, that's all.<

    Understood.

    Does anyone here remember Prohibition in the 20's and 30's? Damn yankees, we'll never learn.

    I'm not so sure legalizing crack would help things, but I can bet that legalizing weed would. Legalize it and tax it. Did anyone here know that America's #1 cash crop was hemp? Guess what the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were written on. Yup - hemp paper. Do you know what the most prescribed anestetic was in the Civil War? Marijuana. Should I keep on coming with these facts that most people don't know about? I've got many more....just ask.

    Ok just because they used as paper doesn't mean that they were smoking it when they were writting it.......although who knows.........anastetic again doesn't necessarily mean that they were smoking it and kept smoking it after that. One more thing what the heck is IMHO?

    Yeah hemp should at least be legal. It's impossible to smoke hemp it's like 0.0000001% THC. It was outlawed [apparently] because it was a threat to the american timber industry.

    But weed should be legalised too.

    Trying drugs is something we all do. Puff of tobacco, sip of beer, pop an asprin.

    I'm sick of Armister's 30's to 50's propaganda lines still emerging purporting to be truth.

    (Yes, it is because it puts you into situations where other drugs are offered and available)

    "pot will drive you insane" (reefer madness)
    So will day time TV
    ect ect

    Can't we at least get some NEW lies, from people who have little to no experience with drugs, to spread about?

    Bottom line is prohibition does not work.
    Legalise them all. Tax them all. If you want some you go to a doctor get pure measured doses. Put the money into education, infrastucture and medical research.
    90% of drug resources are spent on law enforcement. That leaves very little to sort out the problems created by driving drug use under ground.

    Someone I cared about had a heroin addiction. She was cured with Naltrexone, cost her a gall bladder. Better than my brother in law who drank himself to death before 40. I am the only one in my family not in the medical profession. I have tried all the common drugs at one point or another. Booze is by far the worst, as it is easily available along with petrol and solvents.
