    How's that?

    >You're going to need at least the first year of calculus if you're going to make an OS.<

Why's that? Calculus definitely won't hurt, especially if you are using assembly, but I don't see how it's required.

kidguru, you want help, and many people here have told you some places you can go. Come over to FD if you want a forum-type approach to learning. We're always helping someone (and each other) out over there.

...Bah, that last part sounded like a episode of Full House...

Well you're going to need a specialized interpreter or something if you want your OS to be independent. Now that I look at it, what I typed isn't really what I meant. Sorry about the confusion. I meant you'd need a basic understanding of calculus, or at the very least Geometry (and then, some functions require trig, but they aren't that common - I've never used one), because you'd need to figure a lot of arcs and stuff for the graphics. you could just do a console one, but to make anything more than just DOS or one of those wierdo hippy ones from the seventies, I would think a graphical interface with ASMs video modes would go along way. Either way, he should just take the advice of an early post, get someone to team up with him, and it's not that far off. He..... or THEY could pull it off in less than a year if they work hard. I'd be willing to help him with it.

Huh? I see people talking about geometry, trig, calculus. I thought this thread was about OS development and not GUI development or other such stuff which requires just basic math.

You don't need those math to write an OS! All you need to know is the theory of operating systems, computer architecture and some languages (C, ASM).

Hehe, it's a nice thread. I wonder when someone comes up and says Kidguru needs to learn quantumdynamics or general relativity to write an OS.

kidguru, please don't bump your threads. This one was over. Leave it resting in peace. If you have specific questions, ask them in a new thread.
