Kids (5 year old) PS2 games.

Is there any "adventure" style games that are simple enough for a just-started-gamer at age 5?

We have Lego Star Wars, but that is hard for ME, never mind my son.

So I'm wondering if anyone know of a more "begginner" / "kids" level game that my son can play on his own, rather than screaming for mum or dad to help every 2 minutes.

Jak and Daxter but make sure you buy the first game though. He should really like it at that age. I know I did.

As far as I remember myself at that age (fifteen years ago), I enjoyed playing with my parents \ siblings \ friends rather than alone. Maybe there's no way around it :-)
Are there neighbours with children of that age that can come over and play together?

Well, I got resident evil when I was around that age... But I dunno if that's too smart to give him... But there is Jak and Daxter, havn't really played it much myself tho... But I've never really played adventure games, so I dunno xP but I'll still recommend some:
Tekken
Star Wars Unleashed (don't think it's disturbing in any way)
And any package full of kids' games xP

It's not an adventure game, but I must throw it in - my nephew could beat anyone in my family at Halo when he was 5... That's not right.

Just get a sega megadrive and loads of games for about $20 and the kid'll love it!

I second that! Streets of Rage 2 Rocked Man that made me feel old... when was that out, 1992? God bless Sega.

Whatever you get for him, expect to spend time with him while he plays, which isn't a bad thing really.

My 3 year old wasn't content to pretend (with the not-connected controller) while I actually played, so I let him play. I did have to help him a lot in the beginning ("Daddy! I can't do this, do it for me!") but I tried to make him do it himself as much as possible ("No, you do it. Try this..."). I also instituted a strict "if you cry over the video game, the video game goes off for the rest of the day" policy. He stopped crying after he had to shut it off a few times and now when he gets frustrated he just shuts the game off himself and plays something else or goes and does something else. He's 6 years old now and he's very good at the games he likes (including Lego Star Wars, he's a huge Star Wars fan).

As for suggestions, I would say any (or all) of the Ratchet and Clank games. There are 4 "episodes" for the PS2. It's a platformer with a lot of mindless shooting, and if you learn to play any one of them the others will be pretty easy to pick up and play.

Guitar Hero is fun as well, and you can pick up a smaller guitar that is sized better for a 5 year old for about US $20 at Wal-Mart or Best Buy (at least around here). Guitar Hero is a bit harder than Guitar Hero 2 (they made the sequel more forgiving) and I like the Guitar Hero series better than Rock Band, but that's mostly because of the songs you can play.

And don't forget, your PS2 can play PS1 games.

Thanks for the advice. And yes, I guess it's a bit optimistic to expect him to play ALL on his own, but at least something that makes it less demanding on mum or dad would be good!

The rule of "no crying or the machine is off" is a good one.

We have neither best-buy or walmart in the UK (although local super-market chain ASDA is owned by Wal-Mart).

Hopefully Crash Bandicoot (Adventure) series will help you as well as Crash Team Racing.
Those games playable on PS2. Or get LEGO series.

However kids from age 4-8 will love any genre of games except puzzle and RPG.

I recommend to guide your son to read comic books (to art skills) or just play computer games instead of playing console games, this will lead a better experience and mind growth.
