I only listen to music while programming if I'm doing something boring. At other times my brain is far too busy to enjoy it. I'd rather be able to listen than not, anyway. Other examples include Nox Arcana, Jethro Tull, daft punk and various pop artists. Soundtracks can be nice too.
Yeah, they changed their genre when Cliff Burton died :P or about that time But I like it all! From Kill 'em All to Death Magnetic ^^
But I recommend everyone to listen to the old Ozzy found one old album of his, and decided to listen, and it rules! ^^ It's called Speak of the Devil, not the oldest, but it's before the drugs destroyed him :P I recomend everyone to listen to some songs from there
    Currently research OpenGL

While programming I like listening to the somber sounds of celtic music. Or heavy metal. But I that is Just me.

It depends on te type of programmign I'm doing. If im generating the code as I type I choose dead silence, nothing to interfere with the creative process. If I'm just coding a solution i worked out earlier (essentialy just data entry) then its one of -

    Classic (Bach , Beethoven , Brahms , Tchaikovsky , Mozart , etc.)
    Opera (Aida is my favorite).
Heavy Metal (Metallica, Ozzy, Scorpions, etc.)
Classic/Southern Rock (Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR, REO, etc.)
    Folk (Simon and Garfunkle, etc.)
    Bluegrass
    Blues (not jazz)

Until you can build a working general purpose reprogrammable computer out of basic components from radio shack, you are not fit to call yourself a programmer in my presence. This is cwhizard, signing off.
