It seems kind of quiet around here, really. At least in terms of beginner traffic.

T'was like a bloody carnival (a mini-a-ture people carnival) here this morning. Stupid little freaks woke me up. Seriously how many kids are that happy to start secondary school?
Good class architecture is not like a Swiss Army Knife; it should be more like a well balanced throwing knife.

I guess teachers are either getting damn good these days, or not as many folks are pursuing the wonderful field of software engineering. If anything, I am leaning towards less comp sci students these days. I guess the irregular economy may be a factor. I bet this time next year it will be bustling with activity here again.

I got a first hand view of what some of these beginner students are having to sit through this evening. My first night at the entry level programming class.

But, I did learn several new things, and I'm aching to share my newly gained knowledge... Are you sitting down?? Here goes...

    • Microsoft invented the "cout" directive in C++
    • An INT can hold a value up to 4 million
    • A LONG can hold twice as much as an INT because it is twice as long in storage
    • And, drum roll please - it's a waste of time to code "int main()" with "return 0", so just use "void main()" and skip the "return" and we'll be better programmers and more productive.

I'm as serious as a heart attack. I was so biting my tongue. Tonight was my first (and last) night in that class. Life is too short. I dropped my speech class (for this programming class - go figure) 10 minutes after the instructor told us "I be going to teach you'uns good grammar this semester".

    Maybe it's a community college thing. ??

Aren't you like 100 years old? What are you taking such a course for?

But on a serious note, yes the traffic has increased. Which is odd, I know people at my Uni post such questions on various forums. When there is so much help and such available at the Uni for free, face to face! Of our Software Engineering lectures, 14 turn up of 42 ... lolfactor 10.

My point is, sometimes it's not because of the teachers/lecturers -- kids these days are just lazy, and are getting a degree/cert. in X because they have too.
