Well, that's dodging the question. I gave Plato only as an example of one person who didn't believe suffering was necessary.
Well, it's not a black and white question, and maybe pleasure can be acheived without pain. But I have an example for you. Find a food you don't like very much. Eat it when you are not hungry, then try it again when you are really hungry. When do you enjoy it more? Damn, I don't like to say this, but maybe the greater the suffering, the greater the pleasure. And IF that is true, (I hope it's not) I guess heaven, if there is one, would have to have suffering. And it would also disprove the idea of utopia. And what about if you really gotta take a ........... That's a great feeling when u get it out, it's a relief. I doubt it would feel good if you didn't feel uncomfortable before u go, but I can't prove that. Man I'm rambling a lot so I'll shut up now.
Yes but the Idea of heaven is to have that relief in a constant state. one that doesn't require/need pain.
Oh also tim, on your sig, the Bible describes the earth as a sphere, last time I checked, that isn't flat
A month with out internet access is like a life without sex.
Fine, fine, I don't know what the Bible says, and I won't bother to read it, so try to argue with this sig.
I don't know... if I really HAD to I probably could... but there's things I have to do online all the time, email, even online HW for a class... Imagine taking an online class without using the web... now that's an idea!
I guess I can do that but it might be tough...
Will someone shoot this thread already?
I can only do it if i'm forced to.
