What if I, someone who already has an animated avatar, wants to switch to some other animated avatar? Would I be prevented from doing so or am I effectively grandfathered in?

Nope, still dont get it.
It's a heart. "I love my avatar." It also looks like lips. "I kiss my avatar."
You could flip it the other way.
"I teabag my avatar."
The possibilities are endless.
