.NET release

when's the .NET framework going to be released and how is it going to be made availible? is it going to be released with Visual Studio.NET on February 13th or is it going to be a free download? They're not going to make you shell out the money for the developer studio to get a hold of the execution enviroment are they?

They aren't going to give it away for free are they! As far as I know you can get the .net framework at microsoft.com. It's a good download for little kids with no money other than their allowance.

I'm waiting to get a labtop after VS.NET is released. I don't understand why Microsoft wouldn't be allowed to charge people money for their products. Sure Bill Gates is rich, but Bill Gates doesn't write the programs, they have average people working there trying to make a living.

The fact is that MS is not free, however surprisingly MS is a low cost alternative, for example Oracle's database software is a mega expense compared to MS SQL Server. Maybe students should just use Linux. What's wrong with that.

I just think that microsoft should distribute the framework and and development tools for this new framework for free. that was a big reason fo the sucess of java. everything was free or very inexpensive, and it was quickly adopted. the tools don't have to be on the level of Visual Studio.NET. if a programmer wants the cadilac of IDEs, i'm sure they would be willing to pay for it. i'm just trying to think of this thing is going ot play out. it only make sense to realease the framework and a scaled down version of the language compilers for free to ensure people start to use it.

My point was it would benifical for microsoft to distribute this thing for free because it will be competeing against free technologies...i wan't slamming microsoft.

Linux is much more than a student's operating system. you have to admit that, but it don't want to get into it....

I think Microsoft will deliver the Framework for free. After all you need it to run the stuff. Like DirectX. We never paid for DirectX either.

I remember seeing the .NET framework download on their website. It was downloadable in 13 parts or else as a high speed download. I didn't download because I intalled it off a DVD. BTW my VS.NET beta 2 does not work anymore! I hope the public release version is better.

Are you running Beta2 professional edition as that is time bombed? - Service pack 2 is out for the beta 2 release though and accordingly resolves this. VS.Net Release candidate is timebombed for feb 28th - however the release candidate is only the professional version not enterprise. in fact the web site is saying that if you are currently using beta 2 ent then you should wait for the final release of VS.Net scheduled for end of fourth quarter as the current beta 2 enterprise is not timebombed.

That would be okay but this won't even let me uninstall beta 2. Also I did have the beta 2 SP 2. You know what, I don't care. We are acting on the premise that software always works the way it is intended to work. I reject this. Infact I don't even like computers that much. I basically want to learn .NET and the .NET servers such as Biztalk, SQL, Ecommerce, Windows, and put together a solution than never change a damn thing. It just starts falling apart and I'm well aware of this.
