copying and pasting from emacs

I wanted to post some of my code that I had written in emacs to the board, but the copy function in emacs creates a buffer and doesn't copy to the clipboard. How do I copy/paste from emacs to another application?

This is the wrong forum for this, however you most likely want to use xemacs or simply highlight what is in your terminal and copy a segmetn at a time.
