We set up here a new windows 2003 server (without ANY problems ;) ).
we put in this server a hard disk from a windows 2000 server (the drive has data on it).
now we have the problem that we can't access some data on this hard drive.
(we have administration rights on this server).

but some files are ok...and we can access it.

on this files that we can't access we can't also see under properties the security tab!?!?

can someone tell me how to access this data?

regards,

gicio

Well i've never touched 03 yet, so, im going to give you what i would do if i was having trouble with a machine.
It seems to have something to do with access rights, either not being compatible from 2000 to 03 for some reason or just something really screwey. So, I say pull the data drive out. Put it into a pc running 2000. Then pull the data off that drive via the network to another drive on your 03 server. That should fix any access rights problems you are encountering.

The problem could be something else completely. NTFS (in 2k and higher) allows file security based on the computer. If that file security were enabled (generally in the form of windows file crypto) only the origonal 2k pooter could read the protected files from that drive. I have mounted NTFS drives and most files are accessable as well as directory structure, yet several files are inaccessable. When returning the harddrive to its computer those files are accessable.

there are plenty of free tools out there that can read the nt/2k file cryptography so if that is the case you should be able to get em back no problem. just google it man.
