Hey i'm looking to build a small half-life mod. Nothing major just a few minor changes, i ran a quick search on google for tutorials and what not but most of it was dead ends or links to existing mods for download.

I've taken the time to download the Half-Life SDK, has anyone done any HL mod creation or know of anyone who can help show me where to begin or even just explain it a little bit?

Do quake3 mod instead.

Model format is easier to work with on the media side.

And ++, I can help you with that, and there are plenty of good tutorials for it.

I don't have base quake three, only arena and that won't run without Q3 base.

I just want to do little things, ie make the blue-laser trip mines beam clear/invisible, modify gun properties, etc. But i want it to be my own mod..

Um, Quake 3 Arena is the "base" quake 3. If you have quake 3 arena, you can do mods.

ok maybe this makes a diff, the actual title is "Quake 3 Team Arena".....when i try to install it tells me to install Q3 first, and being on dialup i can't rlly dload it.

Quake 3 TA is the expansion pack for Q3A. Are you saying you cant install Q3TA becuase you have to install q3a first (that sounds right).

So you don't have the original quake3?
Then why do you have q3TA?

Hm, ok seems a good deal, Do you actually like quake3?
Well, anyway you might want to look to the future
because half life is reaching its end, of course the game is
fun to play, but nobody is waiting for another half life MOD
simply because almost eveything is already done with HL.

You could try Quake3 or Unreal2.

BUT as you mentioned you only want to do inocent small effects.

Half-life mods r for my own personal lan party use, simply because HL will alwyas be my fav FPS, going everywhere for all time :P

Yeah, Half Life is my favorite game either. But sometimes i get
sick of the ugly graphics and start up Quake3 just to be amazed
how buetifull it looks and runs.

I've done some mapping for half life as well but exchanged that
for programming:p

Doom3 has the potential to be my new fav FPS.

By the way, How's the idea to make a CBoard Half Life map huh?
Let me know! I need to take a break from programming
anyways. Im off to bed now later.

Yeah, Only problem is the editor i used ran fine in Win98 but
when i switched to WinXP it crippled, Running slow, Low FPS,
buggy, Crashes etc.
But last time i checked was 5 months ago so il take a look
at it again.
