Here's what I have now. Please comment or add or whatever.
ASUS A7V8X mobo
XP 2400
2 512 sticks of Kingston pc 1000 DDR
Soundblaster Audigy (and 5.1 system)
Radion 9700
Western Digital 80 gig 7200 RPM HD
Any Ideas on CD/DVD drives, or on the mobo/processors would be appreciated.

i dunno isnt 80 gig a lilbittoomuchthe more HD u have the slowerit willrun on the other hand the less HD u have the slower it goes because of the virtual memory .... if there is nything i would change then its the HD ====>1 of 80 gigs
I have this one: http://www.samsungelectronics.com/odd/cdrw/sw_248f.html
And dude... in 3 months, I never loosed any disk, and every time I burn in 48X, it's perfect.

I have an 80gig drive 7200rpm - it's pefectly fine - in fact I've about used every gig in it.
But I also have a 10gig drive which my OS is installed on it...
the HD is perfectly fine - but I would suggest partitioning like a 5gig space for your OS and keep the games/files separated from the OS. It will improve the speed and keep things cleaner when u install/uninstall programs.
I gave winxp 10, is uses around 6 at the moment.

Wow! Where'd you got PC 1000 memory sticks from???
Hehe, there are PC66 PC100 PC133 PC166 PC200 PC266.
Not really sure how this is done at the pentium side, but i'm sure
it's alot more complicated there.
How about your monitor? It's one of the most important features
of a PC.

Get a TFT monitor.
They're very good for the eyes.

Where have you been for the past 2 years?? He's talking DDR, and while what he said wasn't correct, because there isn't anything called PC1000, there is PC1600, 2100, 2400, 2700, 3000, 3200, 3500, and 3700!!
If you're buying a computer to play games on, stick with a CRT monitor. They're provide a much sharper image.

Some TFT monitors claim better sharpness then CRT's,
never had the oportunity to try it tough.

I've heard that, too - but I've never seen one in real life. We use TFTs at work, and while they're kinda neat, I wouldn't want to use is for gaming.

I meant 1600 on the ram, my bad. Anyone see any potential conflicts or anything?

No, Conflict is what old motherboards have, These days whe
don't have any conflicts. Except for rare hardware.

I'm not too sure about the RAM or motherboard. I'm kinda shaky on whats good for mobo specs. I dont plan on overclocking or anything.
