I recently installed Windows 2000 Professional on a Compaq Presario 5000 Computer.

I recently got the modem drivers working correctly with the modem.

My problem is: I have an onboard (attached to the motherboard) sound device, and windows is telling me (in the sound and multimedia settings) that its preffered sound device is: (in the audio tab) Sound Playback: Modem #0 Line Playback

That is the only thing under the dropdown list also. My question is: how do I change that and get my onboard sound device working?

Hmm what type of modem is it?

Have you tried looking in device manager to ensure there are no errors with the integrated sound?

Motorola SM56 Voice Modem (winmodem, duh) the drivers were made specifically for Win2k.

Nope, no conflicts.

hmm, was your sound working before you installed it? Seems like the modem over-rid it and is masking it from the o/s. I've never seen this problem before, have you tried turning on mute in the modem settings and/or updating drivers for the onboard sound?
