Windows explorer is sick (win98se)

My windows explorer is sick..when ever I open a folder it takes. too much time to open.. it.. and (i think) check two files.. desktop.ini and folder.htt if these are not in the folder then first creates these two files.. and then let me.. work..

Creating and checking these two files in each folder is the reason for what my explorer.. is sick.. whyyyyyyyyy

What is this.. .. Can u explain..?

i've seen this before, and i'm not sure of the cause, but i do know of a solution.

Put in your win98 cd, when you computer starts up, go into setup (usually the delete key), select your cdrom as your first boot option....if you don't feel like doing all that, and you also have the win98 boot disk, put it in before you start up. Either way, you will receive a screen with 3 choices, go with choice 2, which is to start your computer with cd rom support. After a bunch of stuff loads you'll allowed to use the command prompt. Go to the root of the cd (type "cd .."), then type "cd tools" , then "cd sysrec" then "pcrestor".
This will run a program (a tweaked version of win98se setup) that will reinstall your windows base files, you won't loose anything except for a few personalized settings which will be put back to default. Now what comes up may be scary cause it talks about having your backup handy, don't worry about that, you don't need one, i just ran this on a hdd earlier today before i upgraded the OS. As far as i remember it's pretty much automatic from there...can't remember for sure though so stay close by in case it asks you something. Once the windows setup starts you won't need to touch it, just let it do it's thing, it will select all the proper options.

that's why i like xp's backup, create a hdd partition and shove your backups right there.

It's always the 3rd party's software's fault! why else would
windows fail? (if your comp sux as well)

well face_master I have done this many times but explorer again gets infected and searches every folder for the said files..and if those files (desktop.ini -- folder.htt) are not there in the Folder then explorer creates..and expands.. exploration time...

What do I usually do to solve the problem is that I perform a search for the files in my system and then deletes them.. so the problems solves for some times... but again after some explorer useage.. explorer again starts..creating files...

What do I wish is any method by which Window Perform a search for these files at each time I log on and delete these..files..

So now.. what do you say.... :confused:

You say you've already formatted, but it keeps happening? Maybe there's some virus thats causing it, chick what files you've recently downloaded/dumped from cds

i have used win98se several times, but did find this situation on my computer. but i did find alot of "illegal operation"

after using 2k and xp, 98 feels....a little...troubled..i guess that's cause my comp used to crash so much. 2k is REALLY stable, never crashed..not even in my **** comp.

as for the folder prob, i used to have a annoying thing like that. It used to take 15-30 seconds to travel from one folder to another...that was annoying..REALLY annoying..

I have updated the Norton Antivurs today and scanned the whole computer but there was not a single virus...

Now my explorer is okey..after reinstalling Window.. lets see how much time explorer will resist.. :D

oh, is your norton copy is illegal? :D if yes, then norton av not use for updating your file pattern. sure you will. just OEM copy could update very well and could found latest virusses. or you may try http://housecall.antivirus.com for scan online.

Unfortunately... there is a virus called VBS_REDLOF, check it out. U will know y so many desktops and folders...
