One thing you can look into is to see if your modem is compatible with the version of linux you are currently running. I have a printer which isnt supported by the linux distribution which I run.

i tried that..but it was imposible to get a list of modems compatible with redhat's linux. when it tried to prove the modem it said the modem wasent found but i know you can install it manually i just dont know how to get the drivers.

First, find out if your modem is a winmodem. If it is a winmodem, you'll probably need to buy a new one.

If you have a good old fashioned modem, try looking up kppp, which is KDE's interface to PPP. It is fairly strait forward, and should be able to detect where your modem is, although you may need to adjust the bit rate down a bit to actually make it work.

Of course, you can always read the Linux Modem HOWTO for more info; it should be available at http://www.linux.org

Good luck,
