You probably need to chalk up more posts first.

I get maybe two dozen requests for help with some sort of programming or design problem every day. Most have more sense than to send me hundreds of lines of code. If they do, I ask them to find the smallest example that exhibits the problem and send me that. Mostly, they then find the error themselves. "Finding the smallest program that demonstrates the error" is a powerful debugging tool.

Can I also point out that you are sort of missing out if you PM someone for an answer that isn't strictly a private matter:
    1. You don't get an answer until that person answers, and we all have to eat, sleep and most of us have work that we need to do.
    2. If you ask one person a question, you'll get one answer. That may be the best possible answer sometimes, but often someone else may have a different, better explanation to why something is or how it works, or how to solve a problem.
    3. We all get things wrong from time to time. This is another time when others will come in handy with a different answer or a correction.

When I get generic questions in my PM basket, I reply in a similar manner to above.

Please don't PM me for help - and no, I don't do help over instant messengers.
