You mean MMORPG?
"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods."

Two games to pick from, both extremely fun.
I can't stand story telling and all that bogus standing around waiting to get to 'level 5 grass cutting' so I can cut down a piece of grass blocking the track to the magic tree which I must cut down, but it requires 'level 10 tree cutting' so I have to go to the logger in some village to buy a new axe and cut down random trees until I'm level 10. But before I can buy my axe I have to kill enemies to get money to be able to afford it. Sounds so fun, I might go watch the rain soak into my lawn.
The closest games to RPGs I've played, are:
* Enemy Territory (the first one is free)
* Americas Army
And some other random ones
Americas Army is nowhere close to being an RPG
Sure it is, you play a role as a soldier, you get 'honor'. And your character has stats.
Well then i suppose pokemon is an RPG too, you play the role of pikachew, and it has stats. Sorry but I think most people are going to go ahead and kind of disagree with you on that one. AA is not an RPG its an FPS.
I think many people WOULD call Pokemon an RPG... however, I would definitely not call America's Army an RPG. Your "stats" do not reflect how well you perform in the game, at all. The game is a First Person Shooter with a unique point system.

Well then I suppose axis and allies is an RPG as well, since you play the role of the germans/americans/british and you have stats ( number of reinforcements left, and numbers in each zone).
Again, The mere fact that you play a role and have stats does not make a game a role playing game. If you apply that broad of a definition to RPG thenevery game ever invented is an RPG.
Gamefaqs.com classifies it as a Role-Playing game:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/gam...ta/367023.html
Axis & Allies is classified as a strategy game... just like Warcraft 3 would be.
Honestly, there is not much of a gray area here... you have a character (or characters) that progress through a storyline while gaining experience, skill, and/or items that affect your ability to progress further through the game. That's pretty much the definition I've been using to classify a RPG. However, while I use gamefaqs to back up my point, I do disagree with them in some regards as they don't classify The Legend of Zelda as an RPG as I would. I suppose their definition is more strict to numerical leveling.

Actually I was refering to the card game version, which is a different game from the console thingy you linked to.
appeal to authority arguments do not make the statement correct. America's army is not an RPG, even if it contains some rpg elements. Nor is it a strategy game even though it contains some elements of strategy (nearly every game does). Its a First Person Shooter, and not a very good one at that. You are correct that there is very little grey area here, but you are mistaken as to the implication of that statement.
