Don't really know enough about it to have an opinion... I'm not all about one world currency - the Euro's a small step in that direction...

the uk hasnt joined the SEC yet, in theory its great - to be able to switch between euro-sattes without changing currency and knowing all values. however i dont agree with european sattes economy being controlled centrally - each states should independantly control their own economy

I agree. A central European controlling institute would be really huge and very very slow.

In Germany they have quite independent states which are controlled by a central government, just like the USA and some other countries.

I think that the euro will make doing bussiness between companies in different countries much easier and development of industries and bussiness will grow much faster.

But do those independent states control their own monetary policies?

From what basics I know of macroeconomics, monetary policy is a volatile balancing act, and is controlled centrally.

I guess what you are referring to would lead to numerous exchange rates throughout a country....hardly an improvement.

This is just the beginning of europe coming together. One day we'll have the U.S.E - United States of Europe, then we'll be bigger and more powerful than the U.S.A.

It's too early to tell about the Euro Union. I think I hope it works,
but I'm darned if I know why, being American and all. I figure
it's good from the standpoint that you won't need twenty different
currencies when you're travelling in Europe, and that's good.
The powers that made it happen must have good reasons for wanting it and I support them .

I don't understand why it's bad to have a centralized power over it, tho - wasn't that the point in the first place? Otherwise, aren't you in the place where we started?

HAH ! Well im British and can't even imagine not being able to spend a pound! What the hell is a Euro worth? Anyway I actually miss not getting francs etc to travel to Europe..sort of detracts from the individual cultures in a way. Lots of people embraced the euro in Europe, but then again their economies are not as strong as ours, are they! Be a BRAVE government that tells the people the pound is going, or even offers a referendum asking the question........Finally ANYBODY living in Britain will tell you the loathing we have for the Brussels idiots. We MUST weigh our apples in Kilo's BLAH BLAH ETC ETC(this is a long list), so we are already (in theory) opposed to losing anymore control to a central bank/economy. There I said it!
    Such is life.

Err....Yes......look at Germany's Manufacturing economy compared to ours
We MUST weigh our apples in Kilo's BLAH BLAH ETC ETC(this is a long list),
Lol!!!! And life aint been the same here since
so we are already (in theory) opposed to losing anymore control to a central bank/economy.
Says who?....15 Million Sun & Daily Mail Readers? I would personally rather be a part of Europe than be a small inconsiquential island off the coast of a future superpower
    There I said it!
    Yup.....you certainly did

Well, in Friesland we have paid in Dutch guldens for many many years and now we're paying with euro's. But the Frisian culture just stays what it is. Not the Dutch government and even not Brussel does impress us. So the euro has not led to loss of culture in our little province in the Netherlands.
