But seriously, I don't think there's room for 3 major brands on this market. I expect Nintendo to keep their head above the water for much longer. But I don't expect them to fly high.
Wii may be cool. But it's just the controller, really. It's not that the games have changed, Nintendo secured some new major contracts with software houses, or was able to produce more boxes and place them on the shelves. Also, the controller... well... it can be imitated.
I'm not trying to bash Nintendo. I do remember and thank the company for their past. I'm just trying to dismiss the idea that Wii will change the rules in the console market.

Not really, you see if Xbox, PS3, or PC gets a knock-off, there won't be enough games for it. Nobody will manufacture games for a system where the consumer can only play with an add-on piece of hardware, it's just too small of a market to be restricted to. Just look at the NES Gun, supernintendo bazooka, etc.. But with the Wii, everyone has it.. so developers don't need to worry about the available hardwawre of the consumer.
The thing is, there are two major brands, and one minor one. Wii has a nice price range so that it sits within a nice sweet spot, if people have some cash left over from buying the other consoles, they can get a wii. Or they can just get a wii and games. There is more room than you think.Originally Posted by Mario F.
Honestly, that's just silly. Do you really expect people to buy another gaming system before they fill out the library of their first? Sure, some rich kid might do it, but it's not the norm.

The use of the wiimote will only increase as the console matures. There are a thousand uses for it that haven't even been touched yet.

On average, no, I don't. Most people will buy one console and fill up the library, some fill up the library of more than one console, and some just selectively fill collection of more than one. I only want a wii for zelda, so I'll probably rent it or something.Originally Posted by SlyMaelstrom
If you only want Zelda, just get the gamecube version. The Wii version's a port anyways.

It's actually the other way around, they stopped development on the gamecube version and went to the wii. I've also heard reports of the video actually being flipped in the GC version. Plus progressive scan and widescreen > 480i and 4:3.
Sorry if this question is rather stupid. What's a Wii?
What is the internets? If you didn't have immediate access to a search engine, I'd have no problem answering that question.

The console wars is a theme that will rage on for many years to come. I own an xbox and a pc, but I have in the past had a gamecube, NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Amiga 600+, and even a commadore 64. Look how the games market has evolved since the NES was released in the 80's. The three major players, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will be at eachothers throats for many years to come.
There is no and will never be a difinative leader. Nintendo have been in 3rd place for a while, and even though I think the WII is ok, it still wont cut the lead thar Sony have on the console market. MS are a close second, but think how many ps2 units still sell compared to the xbox. When the ps3 is released, don't except that to fly off the shelves either.
MS will have to bide their time and release games that would put people off Nintendo's and Sony's latest gadgets. We will soon see that the winner takes all...

As I said, I don't expect too many sales on the PS3 until Christmas '07. They didn't have enough launch titles. Everything good is coming out some time this year.
