    Google Sketchup

Well...I am personally a Google fan...pretty much everthing Google is cool.

Anyway...I have always been interested in making 3d models and such...but have never really had a good opportunity to learn Maya or Blender, or any other related program. Either there is just a steep learning curve or I have always been too lazy to put in any effort.

Well...I downloaded Google Sketchup today...and I must say...it is quite cool. I am incredibly enjoying it. It is very easy to use and definitely suits my purposes. Anyone else use Google Sketchup?

    It's so cool.

    I agree, Google is cool.

Google Sketchup is good for having fun. But I don't think you can do any complex models with it.

A lot of professional mappers in the game industry use this tool to layout their maps. A person on my mod team used it, and it's pretty cool for presenting stuff. I've also seen people make weapon models, such as, the AK-47, so complex models are indeed possible.

Complex models? God no. You need a really expensive program to help you create them!

    I especially like r and t I think.

EDIT: Check these out: this first, then this closeup. It's good to see some people have a sense of humor.

I am sure Maya and 3ds Max could easily create much more complex models than Google Sketchup, but for my purposes as a beginning modeler Sketchup works great, and the learning curve is very shallow, whereas Maya has a much steeper learning curve I think.....

by the way Sketchup does have a 3ds exporter
