Eh... I don't fish... for me it's more like stop looking at the flashy games and move on to the adult vi... ahh I forgot PG-13.

I've had the same experience but I've always come back to programming. It's in the blood I guess, but I still get that code 'block' every now and then.

Sometimes I play games for a long time or work on other projects. My terrain system was getting old so I started a 2D game project. Then I worked with MFC for a very long time and now I'm back into terrain in DX as well as shaders.

I would say the internet has been the number one force pushing me to do more and more in code. There are so many papers out there on graphics from way way back when and only now we have the power on a desktop PC to actually implement some of these very cool techniques.

If you are losing interest, do as the others say and take up another hobby. Who says it has to be A or B (one or the other). You don't have to throw programming away for good but you can put it on the backburner. When you come back to it, you'll have to refresh your memory a bit, but it's like riding a bike.

Recognizing you are losing interest, however, is a good thing. This is an opportunity to grow and learn something new.

And now I'm done b/c I'm starting to sound like Dr. Phil or something.

World of warcraft is a good game, but even with its big high tech flashyness it gets boring pritty quick. (Grinding for the lose :P)

Actualy, I play world of warcraft and raid once a week or so, but I prefer www.xenimus.com 80% of the players are stoners, the other 20% kill you on sight, the games graphics arent to great, but for some reason the games really cool. Maybe because one lone guy made it... (But its all grinding :P)

As for keeping interested in programming, its pritty much not possible :P. Take some breaks, do some other things, see some sights, but every time you've been away from it, It'll come knocking down your front door :P. (Maybe that was the IRS...)

Anyways, soccers a great sport, and if you're really bored of programming, why try? (Besides making money :P)
    Code:
Error W8057 C:\\Life.cpp: Invalid number of arguments in function run(Brain *)

Yes it is, 'cause i'm back. I've got my enthusiasm back, i started to learn again it's a wonderfull felling. I know this is what i want to do for the rest of my life.
So it lasted for few months, but to me it seemed like forever.

ElastoManiac, are you the creator of Elasto Mania (Elma) or just a fan?

I also go through phases in programming. I actually dropped out of a computer science major and transferred to another school. Now that I'm away from the comp. sci major I actually feel like programming more than I did while in university! I dont' have much time these days but whenever I do I've felt very motivated to do programming.

Another thing that I stopped doing is comparing myself heavily to other programmers. I think every programmer has something interesting to offer. I think that programmers in general try too hard to make themselves seem like they are smarter than everyone else, and it gets kind of counter productive. It's nearly impossible, in my opinion, to implement a project that has everything state of the art and implemented perfectly.

Also realize that the so called 'guru' programmers have spent many years learning...bubba is like 80 and I've been programming heavily since I was 14, and I still feel like I've got so much to learn, it takes time.
I'm not immature, I'm refined in the opposite direction.
