    tcp/ip paths to sites??

    I ran a visual traceroute for my website the other day and noticed the path -

    From BT Intenet -
    private Network
    LIE (London Internet Exchange - Docklands)
    Washington
    NY
    Paris
    UK
    VA
    FLA (Ft Meyer - where my server is)

    does it follow the path of least traffic - surely there must be a faster path than going around th world a few times

    >>does it follow the path of least traffic <<

    Most routers would use some form of "best path selection", so this would may include which path has the least traffic, but not necessarily.

    >>surely there must be a faster path than going around th world a few times<<

    8 hops is pretty fast, and that's probably the quickest way to get to trace your server.

    It's been a while since I've touched any networking stuff, so there may be someone here who could better explain - perhaps Betazep?
