version control on VC++ 2005 Express

Any ideas on what I can do to add version control to VC++ 2005? Anyone tried it? Probably as an external tool accessible through the tools menu... but what would you suggest? CVS? Does it integrate well? I'm concerned with possible clashes with how C++ 2005 Express stores project files.

For Subversion, you could look into AnkhSVN, though it appears that the version that works for VC++ 2005 is an unstable development snapshot.

I get maybe two dozen requests for help with some sort of programming or design problem every day. Most have more sense than to send me hundreds of lines of code. If they do, I ask them to find the smallest example that exhibits the problem and send me that. Mostly, they then find the error themselves. "Finding the smallest program that demonstrates the error" is a powerful debugging tool.

Ah... unfortunately the visual studio express editions don't support addins. It seemed like a good solution though, albeit still drafty as you say.

What's your experience with CVS implementation on Dev-C++, laserlight? Do you like it? I'm considering doing as my first fun-project a small app to generate and maintain Dev-C++ project from C++ 2005 Express Edition ones.

I plan on taking C++ 2005 Express as the debugging implementation and use Dev-C++ for release versions (and apparently as a version control platform). The reason is, I don't want to be under Microsoft licensing system. I'm taking my learning of C++ seriously. (It's a little difficult to explain why). However, I plan to be among the Open Source community in an year or so.

I have never used the CVS support from Dev-C++. My use of CVS (in MS Windows) has been with TortoiseCVS, which seems pretty good, though admittedly I'm usually just browsing through sources rather than actively developing with the VCS.

Ah, and the copycat Subversion has TortoiseSVN too, and this one is definitely stable.
